Mark Christianson
I guess I am glad I am not out ice fishing in a metal framed portable right now. It was just lightning and thundering up here in Big Lake. What the????Unbelieveable.

Hopefully the lighting stops before tomorrow. Moose-Hunter
I agree!! What the????? I first thought it was my head cold playing tricks on me... Lightning, thunder, sleet and freezing rain as we speak, here in Cologne.Weird, ain't it?
Borch
Well I was out fishing in a metal framed prtable when it started. It didn't take long for me to break it down and head for the access. It's weird that folks kept coming out and setting up. Appartently lightning isn't dangerous during the winter months. The thunder is impressive without any leaves or anything else to absorb the sound. It cracked at least 20 times within a mile while I was running for the access. There ain't no fish worth dieing for. knoppers
I was out on mitchel lake in my portable when that started, I stayed out though, hoping the fish would turn on. just a bunch of lookers, and no takers today. the lightning I wasn't concerned about, it was the heavy winds around 4 pm. hawkeye43
I just got off lake tetonka. went for a ride when the wind came up, just getting ready to take the otter down and the wind caught it and away we went, ended up a good 1/2 mile from home before i stopped. That sure gets the heart pumping not knowing when or where you going to stop then pushed along shore to home. Dieing is for along time to!!!! ATM
Nice weather huh. As on duty law enforcement down here in the metro I have responded to several accidents today. Please slow down the hot fishing spot will still be there! Especially you guys with 4x4 the majority of the injury accidents tonight for me have involved people with 4x4 going to fast. Stay safe! Goosepimp
I was out on a local lake too. Scared the heck outta me when the holes lit up. Headed for the landing like every one else.
Lost
This is the craziest weather I've seen in Minnesota in my 6½ years here! I wasn't out fishing though. I was at a friends place after church today talking about prophecy with his kid when the lightning struck and thunder rolled. LOL. Talk about getting a point across! The kid was scared stiff.I'm taking him out on the ice tomorrow since it's only supposed to be breezy and partly cloudy.I second what Adam said about the 4x4's. I've got one but I was going down Hwy 10 at 45-50mph the entire way. Almost everybody else went flying by me like I was nuts. I think they're the nutty ones! hurricanemark
This is true. I was a snow plow driver for a county and those trucks are hard to stop too. That is why they go slow. Nothing more stressful than someone passing a truck while it's clearing the streets making them safe. The fish will be there.
Rather.B.Fishing
I was out as well. At first I thought someone had some super camera and took a picture of a big one. Then the more it came the more I was in disbelief. I can't remember seeing lightning in the middle of winter, but I'm sure I have. The one good thing was I wasn't 100 percent on where the access was. The light show sure helped. Not much luck on Big Marine today, will have to try again when you don't have to nail your house to the ice. I got up to adjust my gain and almost lost the whole ship!Hope eveyone made it off safely.
Captain B.R.K
I was out shopping for a new computer desk and saw a HUGE streak come down to the ground! IMPRESSIVE, yet weird for the middle of winter. Wonder what would happen if lighting hit a piece of water (lake full of ice), what would happen
tomfromblaine
Heck I was fishing a little ways up nort tonite and the fish were'nt cooperating and I started seeing this occasional flashing going on and I thought man the boys next to me must be pounding em on glow jigs (they were on the vex) so I get my glow rig down, and open up the door to have a smoke, then I see what that flashing was all about and thought I gotta get the H*&#! off this lake now!! weird stuff huh! BarryG
I remember the one time I've seen lightening during snow, it was 1982 and we got 2' of snow from it. It took me 3 days to shovel from where my car was parked to where the neighbor and his sons had cleared the driveway. If I never am around thundersnow again it will be ok with me! Ishmel
I was out fishing during the storm also. We stayed, probably stupid, but the walleyes were biting! So I called my dad today, he's a retired electrician to ask him what he would have done. He said he didn't think that you'd be grounded on the ice the same way as in a boat, but he wasn't sure. He probably would have stayed and fished? Any expert opinions on this?
