Any Volunteers

I was wondering how many FMers volunteer some of their valuable fishing time to help their communities. I'll bet there's quit a few. How about it? Any Volunteer Firefighters, EMT's, First Responders, S.A.R, Coaches, Scout Leaders, Fire Arms instructors, etc.

Every year help out with a handicapped archery whitetail hunt in North Dakota guiding one disabled archer each year. Good feeling when these guys shoot a deer, better thrill than shooting a deer yourself.

I'm just getting started with some different volunteer events. The events I've been involved with have been fishing related so it really is enjoyable. Both events give their proceeds to Camp Confidence in Brainerd. One is Fishing Has No Boundries, the other is the Camp Confidence Fishing Classic. I'm looking forward to helping out more in the future.

I was a volunteer coach for football hockey and baseball for years when my son was involved now I dont do much of that. I did organisw a handicapped event this year with steve at lakewood lodge on sand where we had 20 handicapped people come up and stay at the resort for a night and fish with 10 guides and made them a big shorelunch with the fish they caught that was a cool event

Assistant Scoutmaster for troop 84 in Proctor Mn.

Probably one of the most rewarding experiences I have ever had. Definitely a lot of work, but I have really experienced a lot of things over the past few years, that I may not have ever done except for my involvement with scouting.

Frank, which scout group are you involved with?

I volunteer at the local old folks home. Pretty much just playing cards and b.s.ing with the old timers. I think I get more out of it than them. My union organizes an annual event called Waters Off. We get together and take care of minor plumbing problems for the elderly and low income. I like volunteering. It makes me feel like I'm giving something back to the world rather than just taking from it.

S T, Cool! I'm sure I will still be there, my son is 14 and working on his eagle, plans to stay active until he's 18, and I expect that I may be there even after he is done. You will be entering a very active troop, lots of Spring, Fall, and even Winter camping, along with the occasional high adventure trip, and Camp Tomahawk in the summer. This last year we did a week long backpacking trip into the Bighorn mountains in Wyoming. You shoulda seen the trout fishing we got into up there! The kids had a blast. We probably hooked and released 70-80 cutthroat trout in the 3 - 4 lB range in about 3 hours! Considering I live just up the road from Twig (Near the LeGrande), and that you work with 107, I'm surprised we havent bumped into each other yet. Well, maybe I will see ya out on Grand or Pike this season!
