After chasing old thunder chickens with the bow. I'm ready to get even with them next Wednesday with the old pipe bomb. I will not be able to hunt till after work next week until the weekend. Cameras are out and going back up Saturday to hang a couple more on another chunk of land. I will be there before sunrise hoping to know as much as  I can about what the birds are doing by Saturday.

Tonight getting the shotgun shells out for the 20guage and re-packing some clothes after doing laundry this week. Can't wait for Wednesday it will not be here soon enough. Have a few phone calls in to the land owners checking to see what they are seeing birds doing. Trying to get the MRI I can.

Decoys will be in the truck but not sure I will use them. From talking some friends hunting the same area birds seem to be really aggressive right now so could be a good choice to use.

Anyone else getting out and scouting?

Good luck , Week from today for those hunting Season A.

I haven't dome much scouting yet, still waiting for the snow to melt in the woods and the spring bird breakups. Will be interesting to see how much snow we get yet this week. The forecast up here is 12-18". Yuk. At least it should melt pretty fast. With that being said I will be out with the Bow Thursday/Friday mornings if the weather cooperates. It is a long season and I will be patient. Up around here I have found early may to be the best for pulling in fired up Toms.

Man what a frustrating day. Had a pair of jakes that decided to spend their day in our vicinity and they ran off a pair of toms that were cutting across the plowing headed for us this morning, then this evening we were pretty confident the nicest tom we saw today would be headed past us to get back to the roost and sure enough... he followed the script. As I was readying the gun on him those 2 jakes decide to come out of the woods, he sees them, and dumps into the ravine with them chasing behind.

EDIT: Now 3 times they have run one off. That tom just made another attempt to sneak his way in and they ran him off again. Never wanted to shoot a jake as bad as I want these two gone.

One of those Jakes needs a dirt nap. I've had that happen many times with Jakes ruling the area. I do not let them get away with it though. If a Jake is in range he will taste good. Our saying in camp is "Never good luck to pass up a Jake"

Good luck to all hunting season B or Archery. 3 birds taken in our group yesterday, my dad got  nice Jake (WI) with the new 20 gauge and a friend shot a nice double beard tom with the bow(MN). Another Tom shot by a friend in WI that was on the lighter side only 16 lbs.

Interesting. I never thought that Jakes would chase a Tom away. This morning I had 2 jakes come out and pound my decoys. I chased them away, put the dekes back out and they came back again 20 minutes later.. I let them live. I am archery hunting so have the whole season. No Tom's seen. I have seen these jakes a couple times now and a couple hens.

Several years ago I had a Tom come out with a Jake behind.

They circled my decoy- Tom in full strut, Jake hanging back.

Shot the Tom.

Jake immediately sensed an opportunity and ran in and pounced on the dead Tom.

Beat him up pretty good.

I had to shoo him away.

He got tough in a hurry when Tom went down.

Even the gunshot did nothing to scare him off.

Turkey's can sure be unpredictable but fun.

Well that pair of Jakes didn’t ruin the fun today. Had an awesome day. Had a Tom very interested for going on 2 hours starting around 9:30, but he was on the other side of a ravine he refused to cross. He kept leaving but couldnt help himself but to come back and strut around gobbling and gobbling. Eventually a second tom came his way and we got to watch them throw down. A hen with them started calling like crazy and we were going back and forth for a long time. All the commotion really got things stirred up and pretty soon there were more toms closing in from three directions. This one made the fatal mistake and came out in the open at about 8 yards and that was all she wrote for my season.

This year my friend shot his tom off the back of the one I killed about 10 seconds before.  Two more toms came running in after that, checked out the dead birds, then got super spunky and put on quite a show fighting each other.  That went on for a solid half hour and while the toms were chasing each other around and kicking each other in the cow pasture, the hens got escorted off into the woods by a couple jakes the adult gobblers chased off earlier.

I'm convinced that turkey's are either so stupid that they're easy to hunt or so stupid that they are almost impossible to hunt.  Depends on the day.

We could have stacked 5 gobblers up on Monday morning.  Thursday through Sunday couldn't get anything closer than 150 yards.

I'm kind of embarrassed by my small tatties.

That's a Missouri Ozarks bird by the way.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
