BTW, the Peppers signing by GB was horrible.

For 2014, Peppers will receive $8.5 million total. Based on the manner in which guys like Ross Tucker and Shaun King have assessed for Pro Football Talk on NBCSN the tape of Peppers’ recent performances, that’s probably a pretty good deal.

Quote:
For Cowboys fans hoping that good things happen in threes, the third good thing apparently won’t be the signing of defensive end Jared Allen.

According to Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports, Allen in “unlikely” to sign with the Cowboys after Tuesday’s visit.

Allen also has visited the Seahawks, and other visits are possible.

The six-year Vikings and, before that, four-year Chief is looking for a “fair” contract and a “chance to win.” It’s possible the the range in which the Cowboys would pay didn’t sufficiently exceed Seattle’s range to justify the necessarily smaller chance of winning that exists in Dallas.

Allen can't sign in Dallas because they just closed the deal with Melton. A Pro-Bowl DT that is many years younger than Allen.

Dallas is cash-strapped right now and it's surprising they had enough cap space to close the Melton deal.

This would be so ideal for him. With the overall strength of that D he can pin his ears back and speed rush and put all kinds of pressure on opposing qb. How that speed rush is exposed against the run like it was with the Vikes D can be negated by the others on that Hawk defense.

wow how things change...I see he went for the money as they signed him for 15 mil guarenteed. Good for him but what were the Bears thinking going from Peppers to Allen?

If your argument is that trading in one aging DE for another is not the smartest move ever, I can agree. But if it's really a comment about Allen being inferior to Peppers, I adamantly disagree. Allen is three years younger and has had 10 more career sacks in two fewer seasons and plays hard every down he's on the field. They are paying him less than what they would have had to pay Peppers, too. In all measurable phases of the game, Allen's numbers and productivity have always been better than Peppers.

I wish he would have landed anywhere but in the NFC North.

Allen is inferior to Peppers. Yes he had more sacks but Peppers was/is better against the run. In the end though as you pointed out, they are both aging defensive ends. What I think is hilarious is the contract that he got.

Allen: 4yrs $32 million with $15.5 fully guaranteed. Contract can be voided to 3yrs for $24 million

Peppers: 3yrs $30 million with $7.5 guaranteed

The Packers back-ended the Peppers contract but in reality can cut Peppers sooner and for less of a cap hit because there is much less guaranteed money. The Bears just locked up Allen and mistake-prone Cutler for longer term deals that will hurt their team if they don't pan out.

I personally like Jared Allen but I don't think he is better than Julius Peppers!!! They are both good and not getting younger but Peppers has a more all around game than Allen. I would rather get Peppers for the deal he signed then Allen at the deal he signed...that is my point.

I'm just playing devil's advocate perhaps, but what argument (facts, numbers) support the idea the Peppers > Allen? Someone said he's better against the run, yet in two full seasons more than Allen he only has 6 more tackles (448 to 442) and Allen has more tackle assists (113/108). Allen has 4 safeties to Pepper's 0, similar passes defensed/deflected #s, and neither of them miss games, so that is a wash. I'm not saying either are at an elite level anymore, but in their primes Allen's numbers are considerably better than JPs and when it's all said and done, Allen will surpass him in every meaningful DE stat that he doesn't already eclipse him in. If we don't use stats as our metric, what are we measuring? I'm not picking a fight...I can be swayed with reason. What numbers support the Pepper's argument? In recent years, all I see is a swifter decline than Allen has had, yet Peppers is getting paid more with his new contract! GB is going regret that move...for that matter, the Bears likely will, too. Neither is worth the contracts they just got.

Peppers is not guarenteed to make more then Allen...I am basing my opinion on watching Peppers over he years and watching Allen. Stats are very similar but to have watched both play over the years I would take Peppers over Allen. Maybe it is a fasination thing that we had Allen and know who he is...

Of course he went for the money. That's all its about for him. I bet he is wishing the Cowboys would have held onto Demarcus Ware for another day or two. He could have tried for a one or two year deal with the Hawks and got his numbers up and tried for a title, but instead he goes to the useless Bears for the money and no shot at a title.

His contract just goes to show what the rest of the league thinks of him, and that we should have cut him when all was lost at the beginning of the season, or at least once it all completely cratered last year and saved the money.

That could very well be. I definitely tip my hat to the players in purple just out of loyalty, I suppose. I might be making a similar argument for Peppers if he was a Vike instead. Now, however, both Peppers and Allen are NFC foes and I have to hate both of them... How about that Everson Griffen...beast! smile

The wide gaping holes were there because our linebackers were worthless pieces of &*(%^.

Allen still has two good years of double digit sacks left in him and he was paid very good for a 32 year old NFL player.

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
