Any chance the ice house out rule with be extended

Given the conditions is there a chance that the state will waive enforcement of the March 3 deadline?

Might be helpful if folks start posting ideas on getting them off, or even setting up a system to get several off at a time.

A few years ago they gave people extra time to remove houses,The reason was the removal date was a Thurs. or Fri,The DNR extended it to the following weekend.Cant remember the year??2008?? it was a bad winter lots of snow.

I was asked to try to get a neighbors house off because he was working and only had nights to do it.We removed that sat.after fishing a few hours, lots of houses were out locked in with a heavy snow.

There are lakes up north, such as Vermilion, that do not have much ice do to early freeze followed by lots of snow. In a typical year I'd be on my knees auguring through the ice by now. A month ago it was about 8-9" thick in my bay and a week ago it was about 11-12" thick.

With lakes at different levels of thickness, I doubt you'll see the DNR make a change that could put some lakes/houses in danger just to benefit fishermen on other lakes. That's my 2 cents

in my opinion it's like milking another week of golf in at golf course. Instead of the greens getting covered as planned things get extended and then the unexpected happens and it snows and gets cold. Sprinklers aren't blown out and it creates a mess.

I realize there's a lot of ice but stuff happens fast and to provide a small percentage of anglers a few extra days of having there perm out can end up being an issue. Besides our DNR doesn't react in speedy fashion normally.

Got mine off last week up in Crosslake area. LOTS of snow, holy cow. We even had a road plowed, but it had two recent snows on it and the atv couldn't plow it anymore, it was a SOB to get off. Plenty of broken stuff, but we got it off. Lessen to self, make tow attachment points and tow brackets heavier duty wink

Also slush was starting to rear its ugly head again... Glad we are off already. This weekend will be sitting in my easy chair in front of fire, or on a sled on the trails...

I take mine home after every outing. No worries with a breakin and I never have to worry about having large drifts by the house. I would not leave a thing in the house if I left it on the lake and to empty it and then put everything back after I go back, I could just as well pull it back home.

Now, if I had it on blocking with no wheel's, that would be a different story.

Even if they extended it for say a week, one will still have to deal with the snow on the lake, might as well get it by the deadline.

It's bad out on the lakes around the metro too. As bad as I've seen it. Our neighbors left theirs out there and ended up having to hire a bobcat with tracks to get it back to land. A vplow and bobcat tried to clear a road but got stuck is slush trying.

Have fun kicking back this weekend. For some reason I can only see you relaxing by sitting on an outboard out on Pelican grin

What I have seen work around Annandale, is hiring a guy with a big tractor to pull them off. Else your stuck having to plow out. Don't bother trying to drive out in a truck unless you know you can do it. If you don't have a plow, I recently helped someone get theirs off with a snow blower. I just made a few passes and it worked fine. It was not far from shore though.

Haha! JJ smile Yeah, even being a big winter fan, I am already looking forward to open water and my comfy Merc seat! We have even been toying with the idea of trying to get more folks again to the Ashby trip this year wink Currently 3 boats, but has been as large as 7 boat trip...

But Harvey my shack is a two-piece double-wide, so on blocks and we slap it together on the ice. Can't really take that one off every weekend! It is more a warming shack midway between my and friends cabins, walking distance for both, and the only things I don't leave in it are my rods and locators. Not much to steal, and we haven't had problems yet. Tiny lake, mostly locals, and most locals and 612ers and kids know by the name on the shack they better not mess with it wink haha!

A snowblower would have helped us in a couple spots, but mainly once we got the thing moving the Chevy wasn't slowing down for anything, and almost rear-ended the slow Polaris atv with the plow wink he wasn't going fast enough! And he couldn't leave the trail because the road sides were about waist tall or higher! ha!

I'm no history expert but I've never heard of the state extending the removal dates. Could be wrong, I often am.

I understand why they don't but I wish they would this year. 36 inches of ice on my local lake as of last Saturday with little snowcover. It's the most ice I've experienced in this area since I moved here in 95. The constant cold weather and not a lot of snow has made uber thick lake ice, and has messed up more than one water pipe and septic tank to boot.

From the stuff I just read in ON, the story is you shoulda taken your house off earlier if don't have a way to get it off now. Don't expect much sympathy from them this year.

Good luck out there!

That said, I don't understand how so many people just thought they would get them off the day after the storm. You could hardly drive around as it was.

This. I was very surprised more guys didn't try to get their houses off before the snow around Presidents Day... and was stunned more guys weren't pulling houses with the storm forecasted last week. The later you get in February, the more you're playing with fire.

Well, personally am going to enjoy sat in a warm house and worry about sun on sun....maybe even mon smile Where there is a will there a way..... and that way for me was to continually move the house closer and closer to the crowds throughout the year. It's Minnesota. Most of us will figure it out, life will go on without fish houses burned to "ground", and some will have some good stories to tell later.

After removal dates, shelters may remain on the ice between midnight and one hour before sunrise only when occupied or attended.

That is from dnr HSOforum. So does that mean you have to move your shack daily even if your sleeping in it?

Far as I understand the law, as long as you are in it, you are fine in one location. Leave it unattended overnight and then it becomes an issue.Soemone please correct me if I have this wrong.

I have seen some houses on the lakes that I am glad I do not own. They look to be all but buried and will need a snowblower, shovel or more help than that.

Even if they extended it for a week or two, one still has to remove it and I would guess in say 2 week's, not much will change in regards to the conditions on the lake.

I am going out either this weekend or next week if the forecast holds for a few days with the wheelhouse. Found a lkae I can get on and off and a great place to park it for those 2 days with not much for snow.

With that said, I will have a shovel and sand and kitty litter with just incase. My last few trips out have been a real treat with getting stuck going on and coming off. I knew before I left this would more than likely happen as I wanted to fish a spot off the beaten path and no roads so one just goes and hopes for the best.
