bassNspear
Well we are up on red. 19 below and just woke up 1 hr ago to a coooooold house. Blowen very little heat out of heater in my ice castle. Got a 30000 btu. Got gas to the stove but it's very very small flames so I'm guessing it's a frozen regulatorAnyone else have this problem before? How so I thaw it out or by pass it
Whisker Warrior
Someone said to have the generator exhaust blow on it to help thaw possibly??? Or place in vehicle that is warming up??? Good Luck! I Hope you get it worked out.
bassNspear
Wanted to Take regulator off but it's all frozen up. Got my deep fat fryer jn house for heat
slurpie
Regulators can warm quick could have even been moisture in the gas. Put hands around regulator and blow your breathe in there. Might work quick if you get thawed out wrap a towel around it. Good luck.
Up North2
Heat tape is your friend. If you are running a generator which I assume you are wrap some heat tape around the regulator and lines and plug it into your generator. Should do the trick. pushbutton
Do you have any of those hand warmer thingies? .....if not maybe try to heat water or some sort of pliable food, put in two zip locks, wrap some heavy cloths around it, and repeat. Surface Tension
Could the reg but it could be that your propane tank is too small.Careful with the turkey frier in the shack for heat. Do you have a way to warm the reg? Warm up some water, put a plastic bag over the reg and slowly pour the water on it.
Mike Stark
I have been thinking about ways to prevent this from happening this week. Could you wrap everything up in a blue plastic tarp and then cover it in snow?I am running 2 20lbs tanks with an auto switch over regulator. fasterthanyou
Mine did the same thing this morning I pulled my hose threw the window and thawed my stuff out I have a 100# to I think a guy needs to look at getting a bigger reg the reg is the problem not really the tank size
B-man715
Did you try a different tank? Try putting the tank from the turkey cooker on your house and see if that makes a difference. If the regulator is frozen, a hair dryer is the safest way to thaw it out (imho). Gordie
Could the reg but it could be that your propane tank is too small. This would be my guess when it gets that cold the gas in the smaller propane tanks can't vaporize fast enough.
CAMAN
Mine did the same thing this morning I pulled my hose threw the window and thawed my stuff out I have a 100# to I think a guy needs to look at getting a bigger reg the reg is the problem not really the tank size if you get a bigger regulator it will be oversized for when it is warm out. Which is probably unsafe. The guys mentioning keeping the regulator warm and a larger or second tank with auto switch have it right.
Hawg
My auto switch one froze last night too. Mine's getting a small heat tape.
pushbutton
The op is in his shiny new wheelhouse. Would think the tank and regulator would be the right size ......it's just really really cold right now...... -20ish where he is at....things just go wrong sometimes. While too late for him now, the best thing you can do to "prevent" this is always have a supplemental heat supply with you.......well, other than a deep fryer
Gordie
If you go with a bigger regulator you will only make the problem worse as it will be trying to pull more gas out of a tank that cannot vaporize fast enough in the below zero temps already. Auto switching tanks work great, but not a total fix,a bigger tank like a 100lb vs a 20lb is the way to go.
Genofish
+1 , having a back up heater is a must also
3pronghook
back up regulator too.
trapperdirk
Sometimes just disconnecting from tank then reconnecting will do the trick . TD
elkrivermn
you could have a bug nest in the regulator that is restricting the flow. Install a new regulator, alot of the resorts keep spare ones for sale for times like this. I cringe when Ii see some of the suggestions to fix your problem like generator exhaust, heat tape etc. PLEASE BE CAREFUL PROPANE IS FLAMMABLE!!! camtis
I'm out on Center Bar off Rogers road with a backup 1500 watt heater if you need it.
cableguy2
Regulator is frozen, what I have done is warm up some water and wrap a rag around the regulator and pour the warm/hot water on it. Does the trick for me.
frostbite
had the same thing happen to me a few years back when it was really cold i fixed it by clearing the frost off the screen on the bottom of the regulator it seemed like it wasn't getting enough air gas mix hope it works for you

bassNspear
Used my deep fat fryer heater to thaw regulator out. Worked out awesome. Enjoying the 75 degrees in shorts now!
