How often do you rotate your tires? (1/2 ton truck)

Recommended Posts

My 2012 F150 that is a year old and has 29000 needs new tires. mad The alignment was done in February and they rotated and balanced the tires. I was getting wear on the inside of the 2 front tires so I had them do another alignment today and everything was in factory specs. Then they tell me that the rear tires are in worse shape than the front. The guy tried telling me that it is from not rotating them enough.

How often do you rotate your tires?

Rotation every 6000 miles on my 2007 GMC Sierra. The factory Goodyear tires lasted 74,000 miles and the replacement set of the same model Goodyears are still on the truck and I am at 137,000 miles now. These tires should get me through the winter.

On my old truck, I did it every other oil change approx 6-7000 miles. On my new 2013 F150 it is recommended every 5000 miles which is every recommended oil change. I changed the oil at 2500 miles and will get the tires rotated at 7500 at the next oil change.

It all depends on how you drive. If you drive straight up 35 to Duluth and back, you could go 15,000 or more. If you drive a lot of freewaay off ramps, and higher speeds, or a lot of corners, I would rotate them about every 5000.

I got about 65k or 70k miles on my Dueler A/Ts that came with my 2008 1/2 ton Chevy. I think I rotated tires about 3 times total on those. I have Michelins on now and am rotating them with every oil change. Hope to get 75k or 80k miles on them.

And I am easy on my truck too and its all highway miles. I have friends that rotate about once every 2 years on their F150s and they are fine yet mine lasted 1 year and 29,000 miles... I just can't believe that my tires need to be rotated every other month!

Am I missing something? I have never rotated tires on any of my trucks, dont notice any difference in wear patterns from front to back either.... Wife Subaru now thats a different story...

Why would you rotate your car tires but not your truck tires?

Those of you rotating so frequently do you go to a shop for oil changes and rotating?

I rotate every other oil change and yes I take it to a shop. I have had mine almost 5 yrs and I have seen under the hood 3 times. That's 2 more than I meant to when I bought it.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
