I took my scale out to the shop and weighed my ice fishing gear

Strike master lazer mag----------------26.6#

Humminbird locator---------------------11.4

little buddy heater---------------------9.8

Frabill commando-----------------------66.2

Frabill seat---------------------------25.0

rod case--------------------------------3.6

transport sled for deep snow-----------32.4

total weight--------------------------175.0#

drag that set up out for 1/4 mile or more and I'm bushed

if I cut out the transport sled I can cut 32# off---its still a lot of weight----

On a positive note after an outing I sleep good that night smile

I did some similar calculations after pulling our new fully-thermal two-man fishhouse out to the flats on Mille Lacs early this winter. The house alone is 110 lbs (though I took out a seat because I was by myself). The walk out wasn't too bad...it was the looong walk back after getting skunked that just about killed me. smile

I used my fish scale to figure out how much I usually bring. Just the bare minimum's...

auger 25#

house 40#

heater (about 3/4 full) 35#

chair 5.5#

bait 27#

locator 7.5#

rods, tip-ups, essential gear 20#

this is the bare minimum and comes out to 195#

a lot of times I bring another person or two, food, stuff takes on water, etc. I'm sure I am pulling 300# at times. Its times like this I really appreciate being a 6'5" 270 pound athlete.

edit: lol my 30 year old auger is a whole pound and a half lighter.

this is very reason i just purchased a rogers store sled on clearance, hopefully b small enuff just to hold necessary gear and 3 yr old daughter when sun i high and decent temps to take her out for first time when a shelter/heater etc wont be necessary.

Lol must be using pike for muskys smile...plus if ya add it up its only 160....anyway its definately a workout, I was missing early ice after we got that first dumping of snow...I used to get annoyed when there was no snow and the wind was blowing hard it would blow my sled sideways by me...Then in january when I had to take a beer break on the walk out I was praying for that again haha...

I really worked at getting my weight down this year.

Jet Sled Jr. 6 pounds

Igloo Killzone Hub 19 pounds

Marcum Flasher 8 pounds

Nils Auger 7 pounds

Rod/Tackle bag 5 pounds

Chair 5 pounds

Radio/scoop/lunch/heater 5 pounds

When I take my Rover flipover instead it is about the same.

I am at about 55 pounds and plan to keep it that way.

My biggest problem is the weight of the guy sitting in the drivers seat of the John Deere Gator.

Haha, me too! I got snowmos and ATV, and don't worry about weight or snow depth anymore wink Getting lazy in my old age...

I don't even drag mine! Just throw the whole works on top of my head and carry it all out there. Kids, friends, and other passers by just ride up on top! Tough part is getting everything/everyone down from up there after I've walked to our spot! laugh

Wasn't there an old Dr.Suess story about Yertle the Turtle? smile

In all honesty, I don't even want to know how much my Otter Tub weighs full of gear. I know it takes two people to lift it onto the sled trailer. I can put a ton of stuff in there and it drags beautifully on clear ice...almost no effort what-so-ever. Get a few inches of snow, I can even manage that for a mile or so. 4 or more inches of snow it ain't goin' nowhere without a snowmobile or ATV pulling it.

sounds like a downsize is in order. My first/last ice setup is:

Clam Fishtrap flipover: 47lbs. take seat out lighten it up 8-10lbs.

Locater, Heater, rods: 16lbs.

ice auger: 4.5 nils blade, on a milwakee drill: 5 lbs.

total:under 70lbs.fully setup. My setup was around 150lbs in 2010. What a pain. Lighten your load, and you will want to go fishing more.
