Fish house games

With thoughts of nights in the hard side house growing stronger by the day, I thought I would see what everyones favorite games are that they like to kick back with a cold one while the rattle reels are down and play with the fam & friends.

I just ordered a custom 4 player cribbage board yesterday for my house.

Another I like to keep handy is Woods & Water. (always a hit)

What's your must have game in your house?

I like smear, UNO, cribbage and the occasional game of cosmic whimpout.

Years ago it was quarters, now we just talk until we get tired and call it a night.

Euchre or 500 was always good. now the ice rarely gets think enough to have a hard side... sad sigh.

We play 6 5 4 not the normal 6 5 4! The way you play with three dice and each player puts 3 quarters on the table.

You roll the dice and if you roll a 4 you put a quarter in the middle, if you roll a 5, you give a quarter the the person on your right. If you roll a 6, you give a quarter to the person on your left.

1 2 3 are safe numbers meaning you keep your quarters.

Eventually enough 4's are rolled so all the quarters are in the kitty.

Then the last person with any quarters left after rolling safe numbers wins!

Where did you get the 4 player cribbage board? It seems these days all you can find is 2 player ones with the 3 player boards becoming something of the past.

Late night cribbage games can get pretty intense when money's on the table!

If you are looking for more family games to get them to put down the phone, head to a games store. I was surprised at the fun games that are out there. Not just traditional board games.

When there are no kids, it's drinks, poker and shaking dice.

When fishing with the wife, if nothing is biting, we sometimes play 1-2, 1-2, 1-2 and try to get to 100.

Otherwise if there are more then just the two of us we play Sequence.

pass the pig game.. as dumb as it sounds its pretty fun.. its like 5 bucks.. shake the pigs and get point by how they land..

When I'm with my buddies it's usually a card game called hand and foot. When I'm with my wife in the permanent I usually crank up the Barry White and forget about fishing for a minute or two. Really puts you in a predicament when the rattle reels start going

Cribbage, poker, and liars dice are the 3 main games.

Also if the conditions are right and we have enough guys we've been known to line the cars and trucks up and turn the headlights on to light up a football field for us. There is just something about playing football at midnight on Mille Lacs under the headlights. Doesn't happen often because you need the right snow conditions, the space to line up cars and you need to be far enough away from the neighbors so you aren't annoying them.

I put an electronic dartboard in my wheel house. Just have to be careful where the dart drops sometimes.

We usually play knock, euchre and cribbage. Watch movies and of course enjoy a beverage. We also have a fine system in place. It costs you a quarter into the kitty if you lose a fish in the hole and .50 cents if you get broke off. 1st fish PUTS a buck into the kitty! Looking forward to lots of laughs on the ice this season.

Is there any cribbage or Texas Hold'em tournamemts after dark, I've only been a Ice Resident for a year, base out of Morris Point. Sometimes it's just me and the dog so a card game would be nice after battling fish all day long.

The game i like to play, especially with new people on the ice is "If you hear a loud crack, count to 10, if there is no ripple in your ice hole, the house isn't going down"

Poker is a fun one to pass the time. I've always been a fan of Hearts too.

Reminds me of my cousins first trip to Mille Lacs with us. He was alittle nervous about being so far out even before getting there so of course we really played on that fear once we got there and found the ice was making alot of noise that weekend. We were pretty relentless and had him going pretty good the first night. The first night he actually sleeped on top of his sleeping bag with his boots and coat on so he could make a quick exit out of the house if he had to.
