BEEFEATER
Hard to argue with the rankings thus far. We're behind the number 7 Giants who have a worse record then the PURP, but the giants are more solid no doubt. The only argument I have would be the Bears at number 6, they should swap the giants for number 7 ot maybe even bump back to number 9.... The PURP gotta pull it out over the 2-3 Deadskins, And houstans gotta continue the Packs decline into the aybess. Of course a loss for Chi town and Detroit would be nice aswell. Scott K
I think the Bears are a better team then the Vikes right now. The #8 ranking, is just reflecting our record of 4-1, and not really taking into account of who we played to get that record. I would say the Vikes should be more in the middle of the rankings, rather then top 10. I just dont see them as a play off team yet. If the Vikes pound the Redskins, I will accept that they are a decent team then. But I think the 4-1 record is because the weakness in who they played. 96trigger
2 of the 4 wins came against last year's playoff teams. I don't know about being ranked in the top 10, but I certainly would not call their schedule thus far, weak. I think the first 8 games are the weakest part of the schedule, But the 1st 4 games were no gimmes.
nofishfisherman
I'm not sure I agree with a top 8 ranking, seems to high to me. I'd still put them in the middle of the pack.I'm just not a believer that this is a playoff team just yet.
RawHog
I may be the biggest Vikings homer and rube on this HSOforum, it truly shows in how bad my fantasy teams are, but it is plain to see, and I'm the first to admit that this is not a top 10 football team, maybe not even top 20. As everyone is already saying, that power ranking only reflects our record, not our true level of talent.. The Minnesota Vikings are playing out of their minds right now and I'm sure they will come back down to earth soon. But as they say- "any given sunday", SO HERE WE GO MINNESOTA VIKINGS SUPERBOWL CHAMPS 2012 WOOOOOOOO!!!! BEEFEATER
Well duh the power rankings are based on our record. thats how football works, where your seated it in the playoffs is all based on your record. Once in the playoffs however, records dont really matter. Records are a huge part of how we rank teams, not all of it however, thats why the pats and giants are ahead of the vikes, cuz they are clearly better teams. NUMBER 8 BABY AND CLIMB'N
PierBridge
It's certainly not based on record alone. New England top 5 with a 3-2 and Indy 21st with a 3-2 record among other win loss discrepancys in the ratings. I can't imagine the 49-ers not being the best team in the NFL.. They are the total package right now, granted it's only week 5/6. Go pack
BEEFEATER
Limitout refers to special teams T.D's as Flukes. Lol, tell that to Devon Hester...... perhaps a dictionary would be benaficial

nofishfisherman
I've always thought special teams TD's were flukes as well. They are just too rare to be seen as an actual part of the offense. There is obviously some skill there or you'd see each team with roughly the same amount of special team TD's but its still a pretty flukey play. Same with defensive TD's, they are more luck than skill. Skill put you in the position to get the turnover and then luck gets you into the endzone. The vikings were lucky to win that game with 2 special team scores. It certainly wasn't there best win. That game is part of why I'm not a believer in them being anything more the a .500 team.

RawHog
That team we embarrassed last week did just go out and beat the Steelers. The humble rube that is me didn't even notice that until I read it here. Now that is something that oughta give purple fans some optimism! Maybe that #8 in the power rankings isn't so hard to understand after all
zepman
Power rankings are meaningless.Special teams touchdowns (points) are not. That's why you draft players who excel at what they do...they obviously aren't going to change the outcome of every game but have the ability to make a 7-9 team a 9-7 team in a heartbeat. Devon Hester is a prime example...so is Percy.Chicago has won a ton of UGLY games since Hester has been there and it's not by mistake. Field position, change of momentum, and ultimately POINTS are the bye products of a team that is superior to another in special teams...that is not something that comes by fluke. james_walleye
Or in the case of the lions.....taking a possible 3-1 start to 1-3. Is rather be watching the vikings on the better end of special teams than the bad end. Speaking of special teams, its nice to know that its pretty much a gimme that after a score the opposition is going to have to drive 80 yards for a TD. It's not easy in the NFL.Now if the vikings want to represent that 8th rank they will walk in and handle a deadskin team who has lost 8 straight home games. We shall see....... MUSKY18
Ranked #8 might be a tad bit high in my book. They are playing solid football right now and if they keep it up throughout the season, hold off any injuries, they might be worthy of it by mid season. Chicago goes how Cutler goes.....which is a dump shoot on any given sunday.I like how Ponder is throwing and taking care of the ball, get AP running a little more and keep Harvin involved......they can be a force. Musky Buck
Not the Darren Nelson play no I buried that one and the Atlanta game and the NO game, and the Kerry Collins NYG disaster, how many of us had money on the Titans last night ? Power rankings mean very little, there are usually a few, few plays that decide it on Sunday. Weren't we like 6-0 or something not so many years ago or was it Mike Tice year and we missed the playoffs because of Arizona Tyrone Poole or something, we need to focus 1 day at a time with Vikes. I rember that 6-0 start. lollol then we just tanked..... Hey it may or may not be to high of a ranking, but im not the one who makes those rankings. the so called professionals at espn are in charge of that. If they say were number 8, I say its up to us to prove were better then number 8 or, or hopfully not embarres ourselves and lose that number 8 in a hurry...
