Iphone4g as a telephone!???

Ufatz

Question

Okay, okay.....I'll buy into all the zip,, whiz-bang, magic stuff about the new Iphone BUT BUT.....how is it as a TELEPHONE? I need something to get weather as I travel and only getting to the web can do that....so I guess I buy an Iphone4.

But last time bought a whiz-bang phone (the LG Shine) it was a joke as a telephone......you couldn't hear anybody! LOL

So...what do you folks think of the Iphone4 as a TELEPHONE?

The only problem that I ever have with the telephone of my I4 is that sometimes my face pushes unintended buttons. The phone senses when your face is next to the phone and the switches off the screen to prevent this problem. However, sometimes as you are talking your face can pull away from the phone slightly and all of a sudden your on speaker phone, muted, and going into Contacts. This is a minor problem since it maybe happens to me once a month, but still annoying. At least it's the only problem that I ever have with the phone.

Yes. I think that is the one all the young people around here are telling me to buy. But they use them for all kinds of things I won't need-things I don't even understand! Ha! I don't need a camera, don't need to twitter and tweet, don't want to watch movies or play games and won't be watching live NFL games on it because I have an actual 50" SONY for that!!

I need a phone, a way to reach the internet and the ablility to send and recieve email-thats it!

Thanks. Any further thoughts send them along.

Just an FYI, but a basic phone (like an LG enV3) with data plan is capable of getting weather off the internet if that is all you're looking at doing.

**edit**

I see the enV3 is discontinued, but really most if not all phones offered now days have internet capabilities with data plans, and some of them even look quite similar to the expensive smart phones with larger touch screens, etc. just might be easier for you to use and cheaper all around. Don't let the salesperson talk you into a phone you really don't need or want.

I love mine, I never had any problems with it at all. the speakers on the 3gs arent as good as the 4s. But other then that, the phone is very easy to use, and is user friendly.

I have had other smart phones for several years that always locked up, had issues and were pretty much a P.I.A to use but the Iphone has been a solid, stable phone. I would like the screen to be bigger than it is but other than that it just flat out works.Put an Otter Box on it.

I've been impressed with my 4S. It wasn't difficult to learn how to use and I get quality connections, both phone and Internet. I like the talk to text feature also. We got them for work and it's made our lives much easier and productive.

Sent from my iPhone. wink

I had 3gs - iOS 5 messed that up bigtime. But when I iWashed it in the wash machine wink is when I got my 4s. I like it a lot.

It works very well for a phone, easy to use, and quick to dial. I have many email accounts coming to mine, and email is quite good on it. Also have the weather apps, etc. Navionics, whatever you want.

I got a "LifeProof" brand case for mine. About same cost as Otterbox, but totally, and I mean totally, waterproof. Shockproof, dustproof... the touchscreen still works better than my normal 3gs did, and it isn't a big case as you might think. Check it out for any ihpone4 users who are thinking of getting one. It does seem to dull the volume on the ringer just a bit, but other than that pretty good. The first time I drop it in the lake from the dock, or leave it out in the rain, it will pay for itself.

good luck! oh yeah, and I am not a typical Apple fanboy, but the iPads and iPhones and iPod touch I have I honeslty like a lot. But will stick with my Windows PC wink (oh yeah, PC Outlook and iTunes and iPhone synching works out of the box easy and great.)

Ahhhhhh....I get it. NOW the expensive little doo-dads arise from the murk! LOL

Got a phone this morning. No Otterbox yet...only a car charger and the clear protective stuff.

What I saw in the AT&T Store was an endless supply of spendy little trinkets of perhaps dubious utility.

But I WILL check out the Otterbox. Or put my new 4s in a ziplock sandwich bag like I always do my Motorola Razr.....still the best cellphone ever made.

Thanks gang.

Ufatz, make sure to check the LifePRoof. I was about ot buy otterbox, but mentioned that I leave my phone sitting on the boat, or in the duck blind a lot... The guy looks at me with smile, and says, "Have I got what you need"... then shows me the lifeproof case. I like it, and guys who have checked it out said they should have gotten it instead of otterbox. Not that otterbox is bad at all, just this one is a bit more sturdy/waterprrof, etc. I think you can find youtube vid demoing it a bit. Good luck!

I did that the first time I checked out the price for an Otter Box. I'm thinking about getting one of the Lifeproof cases now after hearing what it costs to replace a broken screen. I checked the online auction site and you can get one for around 50-60. Much cheaper that the 120-150 for a screen.

Okay. Good. Thanks. I did not mean to imply that people buying those devices are stupid.....just that it would be stupid for me.

Jeeezzee...at my age I can't be laying out $80 for a LifeLine or whatever. At my age I don't even buy a full dozen eggs! Ha!
