Poached deer - Houston, MN

Recommended Posts

I think pen rasied deer have the bleeched looking antlers due to the fact that they pumped full of minnerals that they wild deer dont have the opertunity to get full time like the pen rasied deer do.

as for some dumb enough to do it I think you would be suprised what some people would do for bones like that.

I was thinking that most of the deer now are possibly micro chipped but I dont know that for sure?

Regardless of what this is, I think we'd all be sick to our stomach if we truly knew how many good bucks are illegally taken each year, that's just it we don't know, but there's big dollars in it nowaday and tough economy and most poachers are pretty good at what they do while we sleep and until they pull the trigger they're as innocent as any of us.

I don't think anyone on this earth is dumb enough to shoot a deer in a farm and then have a picture taken.

1) Apparently there are (see the link to the news article).

and

2) Even if this story turned out wrong, you apparently have never been deer hunting where I've been. "Dumb" doesn't begin to describe some of the "hunters" during deer season...

Buddy of mine has some pet deer over in Wisc. At one time 4 of his bucks grossed over 200" typical. Last year one sprouted to about 280" non-typ. Anyway, his pen is mostly open his bucks all have whiter racks, and I think that's why many pen deer have whiter antlers, from being in the open. They have plenty of trees and posts to rub, their bases are mixed - some are still rough, some are smooth, and many of the trees are pines and have lots of sap, so I don't think the bleached look comes from not being able to rub. And you should see some of those rubs!

WOW! Guess I was way off. This guy needs to sit in jail for a while to think about it and if nothing else, to keep him from spreading his genetics to any other human being.. unreal! Here's the TV link!

The poacher is an [PoorWordUsage] and a criminal, and need to get punished severely.

I know i'm going to get ripped for this, but reading the article from WCCO, does anyone else think the owner/owners brother is being a little dramatic? A deer was killed, not a member of his family. Again, what happened was wrong, and it really sucks for the owners, but saying that you don't know how you'll ever recover from something like this, come on.

I think financially it is going to be difficult to recover from this is what he might be referring to. a 220" class buck is worth what to a high fence hunt operation in Texas? and 14 of his deer were liberated. If he has a cattle farmer, he would have lost 15 head, doesn't seem like a lot, but to the farmer and that is what this guy and his brother are, it could make or break the operation.

We once had some punks try to kick in our door in West St. Paul while we were at work. It took me a while to get back "normal" sleeping in our house.

Thanks, I guess I wasn't looking at it from that persective. I also didn't see that 14 other deer were lost, just that 2 others were missing.

Isnt poaching the illegal takeing of wild game? This is more of a thieft issue then poaching. Im not trying to soften the crime, the guy is an [PoorWordUsage]. He has to be an [PoorWordUsage] to think he could get away with this. Infact the kid may be a little slow.

The article I read said he will not be charged with any MN game laws since it was within a high fence, but rather theft and destruction of property. That's too bad because he will probably get a fine and small jail sentence and be back in the woods next season.

One has to remember that the value in these bucks is in the genetics and yes, some are sold to farms for canned hunts. I would imagine, but do not know for sure, that these guys are selling semen from this deer and there is big bucks (sorry, I couldn't resist) in that. My brother raises deer and they do a lot of artificial insemination to get these types of deer.

I was with Harvey, I hope this isn't true, last year was that large 8 pointer and of course we couldn't make it to the new year without a story. The thing that many of us can't figure out is how you could treat an animal that way, an animal I thought most hunters and people who don't hunt, think highly of, how can 1 live with themselves and slap illegally taken animals on our wall or like this clown get busted for the very thing you claim to love, incredible, our state isn't half what it once was and it isn't just this story, thanks clownboy for showing the rest of the country that you bet MN has plenty of idiots. I hope the deer gods break that clowns arm the day before opener the next opener he gets.

Sure hope it isn't true. If it is true, I sure hope the breeder had the microchip in the deer? Helps to prove your case if the ear tag was in fact cut off and removed. I don't know how someone could be so stupid. Breeders usually have tattoos inside the ear as well for identification purposes. I even know one breeder that shaves a spot when they are doing vet work on em and gives them an identifier tattoo in another area. Breeding whitetails is serious business for the guys that do it. If it is true, my guess is that this guy will be going away for a long time.
