Poached deer - Houston, MN

Recommended Posts

Pics were circulating last week of a giant deer taken near Houston/Rushford. From the sounds of things this morning, it wasn't totally legal. Have heard reports of several law enforcement vehicles at the person's house, and the story is that he broke into the game reserve, kill the deer and dragged it out. Notice the red circle where you can see where he cut the ear tag off that the owner had put in.

Kind of a black eye for the Peterson Fire department if that pic gets too much exposure. I will watch for the story. Can't let one bad apple give the rest of us honest hunters a bad name. Too bad he couldn't wait until next year when the 3rd year of APR is in place, there will be bucks like that around every tree! wink (I said that to be funny, please don't start a debate)

I think the bleeching comes from the sun more than anything. Pen raised bucks sit out in the open more than in the wild. A lot of times they really don't have heavy cover to bed in or they do not feel the need to. Just my thoughts on it, i could be wrong.

I agree with this.

HA. That slice in the ear surely could have been from sparring. I don't think anyone on this earth is dumb enough to shoot a deer in a farm and then have a picture taken. It wouldnt take long for the owner to find out. I'd say that based upon the info given here, the story is [PoorWordUsage] and this is a great buck. Until we know more of course.

I wouldnt put it past some, latley it seems people run home from the stand to beat their chest about a big buck they shot befor they even trail it.
Just like the lady that shot the two big bucks out of the Golf course! wink

Pen raised bucks have dull looking antlers because they have nothing to rub their antlers on to give them color. sap ect. Notice the burrs on the bases and outside of the beams nothing is smooth or polished.

That would depend on the pen. ;>)
