Cicada
Seem to remember that some on this forum thought that could not happen with him on the team.

ted4887
Couldn't happen to a better guy. I'm glad he got his ring.
thatoneguy
It's not like he played any role; the dude was 6 for 35 in the playoffs. Still, it's a ring. Good for him.
harvey lee
Punto dod not bat well. But, Hamilton and and a few others were almost as bad.Young didn't set any batting records either.main thing is, with the team they fielded, they are the World Champs.Nice ring Punto. ted4887
the dude was 6 for 35 in the playoffs. That seems right in line with the rest of the Twins batting averages.
greebs
glad for nick. la russa used him properly and he played his role in helping that team out.
PierBridge
That could be... no strike that, this was the worst managing "Larusa" performance in World Series history.
JBMasterAngler
Actually Punto played a huge role in the cardinals winning the world series. In one of the last games of the season he went 4 for 5, including his only HR of the season. They don't win that game, they wouldn't have made the playoffs. zepman
Good for Nicky Punto...excellent in the field and nothing at the plate...LaRussa got exactly what he needed out of him this year. Congrats!
Windy City Walleye Hunter
A few of our "outcasts" are now sporting World Series rings, fellas. Nick Punto, Ryan Theirot the ex Cubbie, O Dotel, the old Pale Hose flame thrower and Edwin Jackson one of the Sox starters. Hey, good for them, very hard to capture one of those shiny gems as we all know!Windy

Harmonica Bear
HAHAHA! Now thats funny.Guy couldn't hit his way out of paper bag, and then if he did would get picked off. I wasn't following close until game 6 but there was an at bat at the end of one of the previous games. All he had to do was bunt the ball in play. Whats he do? fouls boths attempts. I've seen that too many times. Then again I think in game 6, runner on first, 2 outs, hits flair out to short left. The outfielder makes a diving catch to end the inning. There's Punto at first with his bat acting like he is going to break it over his knee, the tough competitor he is. My question, [PoorWordUsage] was he doing with his bat at first base? What if the ball dropped in? Hand it to the first base coach? Anybody else see that?
bobbymalone
Glad to see you guys hating on former twins players now in addition to the current ones. I like baseball for what it is. That's why I don't come around this forum very often to read whatever thread is complaining about whatever player or team this time. Congrats to Punto and the rest of the WORLD CHAMPION Cardinals team.
zamboni
Actually Punto played a huge role in the cardinals winning the world series. In one of the last games of the season he went 4 for 5, including his only HR of the season. They don't win that game, they wouldn't have made the playoffs. Bingo. And love him or hate him, Tony LaRussa is a baseball genius, and if he didn't think Punto would contribute, he would have been left off the post season roster. Punto is/was a human highlight reel with the leather, and if I had a choice between him and Nishioki right now, Punto would be it.
