I am in dire need of an ACCURATE slug gun. My benelli doesnt shoot slugs worth a hoot, WOuld be open to anything, as long as its accurate. have heard of people using legal pistols with scope on? What are my option here?

ive shot alot of slugs out of alot of different guns using both rifled barrels and smooth barrels and i finally settled on the rem 870 with a rifled barrel usings rem sabot slugs can hit a very tight pattern @100 yds i think the biggest thing though is finding that right slug

AC have you looked into muzzle loaders? That's my primary gun I use and have great results. I shot my 870 smooth bore with rifled slugs and rifle sights and was very happy with the results,my 14 year old neighbor girl will be using it this deer season and with me shooting it I can hold a 2 inch group at 50 yards that's the best I would expect from a smooth bore.

I really like my TC encore 12 Ga. The only thing I don't like is that it kicks like a three legged ninja. Plus I can get different barrels for my gun, and with having young boys in the house I like not having 4-5 different guns in the house.

My advice would be if you are buying a slug gun, get one with a rifled barrel. I would never go back to smoothbore. Get the best gun that fits you within your budget. Shoot a bunch of different sabots through it and see what it likes. I have 2 AL390's, each have slug barrels, one with a hastings open sites, and one with a factory beretta barrel and cantilever mount. Before those, I used a winchester 1300 pump with rifled barrel. All 3 are great deer guns and accurate as get out. All 3 like the Hornady SST sabots. I have no problem grabbing any of the 3 and taking them out feeling confident they can get the job done.

Also, the savage bolt actions as mentioned before intrigue me, I bet they are extremely accurate. I wouldn't be surprised if I end up with one eventually.

870 rifled barrel here with open sights. shoots winchester partition golds slugs extremely well. If you are shooting slugs with a smoothbore, I suggest the truball slugs, everyone I know who shoots a smoothbore still, shoots the federal truballs. If I was stand hunting in a slug zone, I would looke at those savage models for sure. Good luck in you search.

Started out with a plain on Ithaca lightweight 20 and didn't do squat. Bought a smooth slug barrel and it got better when I started using rifled slugs. Put a 3-6 scope on it and now it shoots great. I think that the biggest difference however was spending the time and the money to get slugs that worked for me in that gun. Of course a decent sighting device, even iron open sights, makes things work also.

My choice was always an 870 Wingmaster with a Hastings rifled barrel topped with a red dot, shot Brenekke magnums and barnes expanders great. My back up is my 1100 smothbore but it needs 4-5 shots through it to lead the barrel befor it's accurate then it to is deadly...It also prefers the Brenekke magnums...

I have a Mossberg 500 with a Hastings rifled slug barrel I used when I slug hunted. It was very accurate when I shot at the rifle range.

Better than my 870 or my 1100 with rifled slug barrels.

+1 for Mossberg. They can come off as "cheap" guns, but I bought a combo package a while ago, and got the smooth barrel and rifled barrel. I shoot rem sabot slugs out of that, and it's much more accurate than my 870, open sights out to 150 yards. My 870 has been relegated to bird hunting.

Browning is making an A-Bolt slug gun now, with the way their rifles shoot I have to believe this would be an awesome gun.

I'd also second the comment on a muzzleloader. For what a good slug barrel is going to cost you can buy a nice muzzleloader for not much more and also get to use it in the muzzleloader season.

I have a Benelli M1 Super 90 with a rifled barrel I use for slug hunting. I used to use the Winchesters and Hornady's out of my 870 before I got the Benelli and they were great. But couldn't get them to shoot a darn out of the Benelli. Tried a bunch of different slugs and finally found the Federal Barnes Expander Tipped slugs and get great groups from them.
