Weather forecasting

I'm curious where does everyone go to check for weather forecasts before heading out to fish or hunt or hike? And how happy they are with the accuracy.

I've been using weather.com but have been getting disappointed lately. Not sure if I've just grown to expect too accurate of forecasts or what but I'll look and see the next morning forecast of 4 mi/hr winds and cloudy and then go out and it'll be sunny and gusts to 20.

So if anyone else has a better source of weather that they're happy with please share so I and others can get a better idea of whats coming.

Thanks,

Zelmsdawg

Before I hit the water: If I'm looking for precipitation, I like to just check the weather channel or go on intellicast and use the interactive radar. I feel more confident seeing radar images vs. being told what might happen. Things like wind, barometric pressure, temperature and humidity I use the hourly forecast section.

On the water: NOAA Weather service on my marine radio has saved me quite a few times. I also use RadarNow which gives me a quick radar loop of the area I'm in.

I've never been impressed with The Weather Channel's forecasts and typically use NOAA (weather.gov). Lately I've been using Wunderground as they have a lot of info on their redesigned site. Much better radar too (Wundermap).

I cross reference Intellicast and Weather Underground. One is usually right...

BTW, Weather Underground has a fantastic weather alamanac feature. I don't usually let the weather dictate whether I go fishing, but I like to learn as much as I can about unusually good or poor fishing after the fact. You can even go back 3 years and get data (temps, winds, barometer, etc) if you keep fishing logs. You can alter some of your strategies to suit the weather.

If you can handle the technical information on the NOAA site, it is the best place to go for forecasting. For example, based on current info I would expect a few storms to start popping over west central MN tomorrow at about 5PM, with coverage of storms increasing by 10PM as they work their way toward the metro. That may change by tomorrows outlook (the same day forecasts are very very accurate). Earlier in the day their may be some remnant showers/storms from those that form over the Dakota's today.

I love data, so NOAA is where I go for forecasting. It's great.

Weather Underground is really good too, especially in making it easy to look at historical data. I have never actually looked at their forecasts so can't really say anything about that...

Hourly Weather Graph is great on NOAA when I'm in front of the computer. I had heard that all the other sites get their information from NOAA, and then base their forecasts off that. True or not, don't know.

Free version of Weatherbug is a good App for the phone. Lots of info.

And Fox 9 Weather just came out with an App (free). It's pretty straightforward, and simple to use.
