Looks like a cheap play! Kinda like what the White Sox would do

I disagree, just a hard slide into 2nd, with bad luck. Everyone of the twins would do the same thing to bust up a DP.

There was nothing wrong with the slide from Swisher rather it was Nishi's problem for not trying to protect himself and getting into the air to throw the ball...as much as I hate to say it Swisher did what he was supposed to do and broke up a double play while still making contact with the base!

It was not exactly a clean play - Swisher slid VERY late, and came in half-sideways. If he had made a normal slide, there is zero chance Nishi would have sustained that injury. That said, it's a play that happens quite often. It's just a bad bit of luck that it resulted in a broken leg.

I agree.. not a cheap play.. it was his own unfamiliarity with playing 2nd base that got him in trouble.. Sad though, would have liked to have seen what he can do.. On a side note.. I got to see the Twins in spring training in Sarasota playing Baltimore. Hughes hit a bomb that still has not landed... Left the park in a hurry.

I didn't see the play, but I read in the paper where Gardy and everyone on the Twins said it was a clean play. Even Nishi said it was his fault he got hurt.

If the guy with the broken leg says it's his fault, that pretty much blows any "dirty play" talk out of the water.

I seen the replay, my version of it sure looked like he was kicking his legs high for a leg sweep, but it doesnt matter what I think. I also think an experienced 2nd basemen would have protected him self, because of the possibility of someone trying to go out and give a high leg sweep.

Also I think Nish will benefit from some time in the minors anyhow. He wasnt ready for the big leagues.

Nishi learned the lesson of "getting out of the way while making the play". To bad he learned it the hard way, we have a lot of big boys over here in MLB compared to Japan. Some of them are suprisingly fast, but all of them will try and take you out. Live and learn baby!

I hate Swisher but like I said and others have said it was a clean baseball slide.....I do have a little more respect though for Swisher in that he went into the x-ray area and apologized to Nishi even though he did nothing wrong......

It was Nishi's fault for being off to the side of the bag instead of using the bag to keep Swisher off him. If Nishi had been properly behind the bag Swisher would have not been able to get to him. This is something you learn early on in your career or you won't have a very long career. You always let the bag protect you or the runner is going to get a piece of you.

i think most people are over looking nishi's weak arm

on the play before Swisher took him out, he had a chance to turn a double play, but his throw was late to first (on a bounce by the way)

If he makes that play, Swisher would have been out and Nishi’s leg would not be broke

it was a clean play..... go twins
