Where have you been hooked before? I mean really hooked. I'll go first...

When I was 13 my neighbor was casting a #3 Black Fury Mepps and buried 2 of the barbs of the treble into the top of my scalp. Incidently, my dad had the exact same experience with a fishing partner driving a #3 Mepps into his head a year earlier.

Has anyone ever gotten a hook hung on the cardboard fisherman at that hospital in Alexandria? (I'm pretty sure it's Alexandria) Whenever someone comes in with a hook stuck in them, they hang a hook on the cardboard fisherman to promote public awareness of fishing safety, especially for children.

Had a friend step on a #13 firetiger rap with no shoes or socks on. Friend was out we were fishing crappies, and when she went to cast over the shoulder, lead head caught other buddy in the lip, she couldnt figure out was wrong gave it one more cast, setting it through hislip perfectly, I can never forget the look on his face when she reared back to cast again, his whole head went with it, plus on top of it he had the crappie minnow still wiggling on his cheek.
Last summer I had a big northern following a zara spook and when it came right before I had to figure 8 or at least try to, dont know if you can with a spook, it boiled kicked up water and I went to set it home, nothing on the exchange but a frog patterned spook going airborne! shocked.gif Took one treble hook to the ear lobe, one to the neck below the jaw line. That was fun.
The first time I heard a swear word, was when my grandpa had was un hooking a nice northern in the boat, thing started to thrash he had one treble hook go through the webbing between his thumb and pointer finger, The other went right in the middle of his hand, so when he went to get the pliers the fish thrashed again, got the third and final treble hook stuck into the jeans right above the knee, not only did I hear my first swear word, I got to use a pliers for the first time to get it out of the jeans, then I had to pull out the one in his hand, then he cut the barb on the one and pulled the hook out, through the fish in the livewell, grabbed a beer, and started to find a new treble hook, we stayed out fishing.

On my 16th birthday my dad was going to take me to Leech Lake muskie fishing. We were both new to muskie fishing and not used to tossing such big baits. We were casting for about 2 hours when I thought somebody tried to knock me out of the boat. Thats when I figured out it was the Mepps Giant Killer in the back of my head. We boated in to Walker(me almost passing out on the way)and had to go th the clinic where they had to remove three hooks that were in past the barb. The good news is that we were back on the water by noon druged up but fishing.

My brother and I were in the BWCA on a small lake catching a lot of small northerns. One wiggled out of my brother's hand and buried a treble hook in between his thumb and fore finger. After removing the fish, he could not remove the hook because it was buried. My big brother advise was to simpley push it through and cut it off. I did even volunteer my wire cutter! When I looked back at him in the canoe, he was lay face down, saying he though he was going to pass out each attempt at pushing the hook through. In fear of rolling the canoe I paddled to shore. As we came ashore, a big northern boiled the water. I grabbed my rod and tried to induce a strike. I came back and my brother had assumed the face down position and was white as a ghost. He asked me to try to remove the hook. I told the little whiner to look the other way, and when he did, I yanked it straight out. He said it was all better, so we were off to land the big one.

I was fishing bass a few years ago and brought my dog along. I was doing good and catching some fish and my dog was going crazy with all the action. I caught a little one and had thrown him back from my front pedastal and my dog jumped up to see him go in the water and stepped on my MH rod and drilled a 3/0 Gami worm hook through the webbing of my right hand between my thumb and my pointer. With his jumping on the rod I didn't have to push it through much more to cut it off. The trouble was that I am right handed and it was tough to cut with my left. I have never had anything bleed that bad and I also was sold on Gami hooks after that. When they say they are sharp they mean it!!

When I was about 16, I was fishing for pike in this river run off area. The pike were thick and you would catch one almost every cast. The problem was there were a lot of cattails and you would get hung up often.

Being young and really stupid, I got hung up across the way and started pulling on the red & white to get it free. Free it became! It sailed like a bullet across the water and caught me square in the cheek. It went past the barb and was stuck! Really stuck! My buddy tried to pull it out, no luck. He cut off the one hook from the treble and tried again, no luck.

He ended up driving me to the hospital where I walked in with this hook haging from my face. The nurse asked me if she could help. One look at my face and she knew what I wanted. 30 seconds later I was heading back to catch more of those pesky pike.

Now I know what it feels like to be a fish!

Last summer me and two of my friends were wading on the north shore of lake waconia for bass. One of my friends hooked into a pretty nice one and it swam right between his legs and the hook caught on his calf. Luckily it didnt go in to deep, we were able to get it out and were able to keep fishin.

Many moons and a lot of water under the bridge ago we had relatives from Iowa up vacationing with us at our cabin. Well one of the young Iowegins starts pitching a doctor spoon from off the dock and low and behold the only thing he manages to catch is me. I think he gave it one of those Bill Dance soooonnnnn phrases as he set the hook squarely into my bicep. My mom happened to be right there and was able to cut the line from the lure and hauled me off to the good Doctor whose cabin was located next door only problem was he was a Doctor of Dentistry and was well into his happy hour well Doc just happened to have some Novocaine so he numbed up the area pushed the barbs through cut them off and extracted the lure from the arm I thought I was going to faint but my mom beat me to it yep she landed right on her buttocks shes lucky the good Doctors wife was able to stop her fall I guess the combination of the sun and me squealing like a pig got to her I still have that lure it is a little memento from my youth

I have never had a hook in me nor have I put one into anyone else. Closest I got was when my buddy got in the way of my cast and I sent his hat for a well needed bath. grin.gif Most everone I fish with has a knack impaling themselves with some sort of hook. Best one was while after a beverage or two they sent a spear into thier foot shocked.gifconfused.gif Good thing he was a poor shot and sent the tines between his toes. Just leaky boots.

a few tears back, my wife and I were fishing Swan lake up between Hibbing and Grand rapids. As i was packing the canoe the night before, she told me don,t forget the net again. Well the next morning at the landing, you guessed it; no net. I was trolling with a home made crawler harness off a point across from the landing. I thought I had hooked bottom as the line would not move. after a few more good jerks on the line it started to move off. Got the fish up to the boat, was a good 8+ walleye. I thought it was tired out, went to reach for it, it took one more flip. Buried the end hook into my finger, broke the line and swan off; talk about adding insult to injury. Cost me 50 bucks in the ER room to have it taken out. All the wife said was, "told you not to foget the net"

In 1997 my son graduated from St. John's University. He wanted a fishing trip to Canada as part of his graduation present. It was early June and we were up near Ear Falls. The twenty sixth fish of the morning was a 1-1/2 lb Northern. Anxious to get my #7 Firetiger Shad Rap back into the water I did not give myself enough slack line, nor had I checked the split-rings on the two treble hooks. The fish was hooked on the front set of trebles, and when the split-ring on the front trebles gave way, the rear set of treble hooks were buried in the V of the my thumb and forefinger. The unfortunate part of this was that one of the hooks on the treble penatrated 1/16th of an inch into the bone. 13 miles by water to the resort, 42 miles on roads that an ATV would have trouble negotiating, only to find out that the clinic in Ear Falls has a Doctor in it only ONE day per week. The great peice of luck I had was, this happened on the only day the Doctor is in the clinic in Ear Falls, TUESDAY.

My buddy caught himself in the back of the head with a daredevil when we were 16. It went through his hat and buried itself under his scalp. His has was then pinned to his head, with 2 of the hooks through the hat, and 1 in his head. All we had was a needle nose to work with. Eveything we did made the hat move, which then made him howl in pain! Because of the hat I couldn't see what I was tyring to do.... Finally after about a half hour his skin gave way and he was released, but his hat is still hooked on there to this day! We are 37 now and still fish togeter once a year and the story always get retold to all our buddies!

When I was a kid(luckily can't remember it) my mother put a flatfishes treble clear through my earlobe.
Other than that, hands/fingers uncountable times, and I always manage to get my thigh a few times a year when changing baits on my lap smile.gif

Oh the stories us fisherman can tell. If you haven't experienced being hooked you should feel fortunate. Just remember it can happen anytime. My story happened couple of years ago. I took a neighbor out fishing on Labor Day. The action was slow until I caught a bass on a Smithwick rogue. Small bass that had lots of energy wiggling. When I was removing the hooks the fish was wiggling a lot and one of the trebles hooked into my thumb, barb and all. After I finally got all the hooks out I looked at my neighbor in disbelief. I said we were not going to the ER and ruin this outing. I grabbed hold of the hook, closed my eyes, said a quick prayer, and pulled slowly and the hooked popped out. I was elated until I looked at my thumb bleeding pretty good. I put some pressure on it and it stopped and we resumed fishing. It was throbbing for a about a half hour. The best part was we caught lots of fish later. The pain dissapated when we were catching fish.

I have 4 hooking incidents I would like to relate...The first one was when I was a kid. I tied a fly onto my line, ( I was using a little Zebco plastic, one piece spinning outfit, that I had won off a T.V. program, featuring Rollie Johnson.) I started whipping it back and forth, like I had seen fly fishermen do, and I hooked my friend right in the corner of the mouth! It took a little wiggling and he was crying, but the fly was little and we got it out okay.

The second time, my brother and I were having a casting contest, using a big old Pikie Minnow, out at Brownie lake, off Hy. 12, in Mpls. He put one out a fair distance and I figured I would have to really wind up to beat him...I er a couple of practice whips and on about the third whip, I let it rip! "Lookitit go!" I figured it was really sailing, cause I could'nt see the plug. I watch the line drop into the water and form a "U" shape right back behind me, where my brother stood with one hook of the Pikie, buried past the barb, in the bridge of his nose, right between his eyes! The force had not only buried the hook, it had caused it to go through and enlarge the hole...I wiggled it right out, "Whew" !

Third time my friend snagged a lilly pad while we were fishing the Ann river up by Mora. He was using a big red and white Daredevil and being a pretty good sized dude, with dude weight line, he started reefing on it and when it finally busted loose, it was traveling at the valocity
of a shotgun slug! It hit him in his meaty calf, and really buried itself. "No problem bud, I can get it out" says I! I pushed it in a little, wiggled it a little, pushed down away from the barb and tried to wiggle it out. He was moaning and groaning and I seen some white looking stuff comming out of the hole, wrapped around the barb...thats all it took, we brought him to the doc in Mora and a couple of stitches later we were back fishing.

Lastly, I had a good sized smallie throw a large floating Rapala, while fishing the Mississippi up near Dayton. One of the hooks imbedded past the barb, in the top of my knuckle and try as I might, I could'nt get it out. I drove home to Brooklyn Center, with the rap dangling off my hand. My wife and one of my younger school aged sons were not up to the job, so I asked my oldest to try to push the hook through. With the tough, loose skin and the dull hook, he could'nt do it. I came up with a plan to save some money on a doctor bill and save me the embarrassment of going to the doctor like that. I took the bottom off a ball point pen, laid my finger on the table, had my son push the hook up with the needle nose, I put the empty hole of the pen tip over where I thought the tip of the hook would be and started applying steady downward pressure. It sure did'nt feel very good, but after a little bit I heard and felt a little "pop" as the hook came through. I cut off the barb and slipped the hook out. It juiced for a couple of hours, hurt for a couple of days, got a little rsd for a bit and then went away.

OK - so my friend wanted to bring his Kuwaiti girlfriend fishing, and so I rowed them out onto the lake to catch some pike. We caught a few, and then all of a sudden I hear her scream. My friend had buried all three hooks of a big red and white daredevil right smack in the middle of her back. With the grace of god and a needle-nosed pliers, I extracted the hooks, but she's never been fishing since.

I once caught a largemouth while wet-wading, on a tiny rebel crayfish crank. The ones with the really tiny treble hooks. Just as I was about to lip it, it carged into my leg, imbedding the hooks in my shin, shook it's head violently, and got away. The rod snapped tight when it got off, leaving me with 5 of the six hooks buried past the bend into my leg. I waded a mile and a half back to my truck, got a pliers, and proceeded to dig them out. Two of the barbs broke off inside my leg and are still in my leg eight years later. I stay away from powerful magnets because if I put a magnet over my leg it hurts like crazy.

Several years ago my dad and I were out ice fishing on new years day. The crappies were biting like crazy! My dad stuck the hook between his teeth and started walking towards the minnow bucket to rebait when he stepped on the line. Well, you can imagine what an eagle claw hook will do to the soft skin of a person's lip. He cut the line, we kept fishing. When we got home he used an ice cube to numb the area, then pushed the hook through the top of his lip and snipped the barb off with a pair of pliers.

1st year of LETS, Big Pine. Catching pike and walleyes on firetiger jointed rapala. My only one and it was hot. Hooked a small pike and through the 30mph wind and waves..somehow the hook with fish still attached went into my leg. I unhooked the fish and not wanting to go without my lure the rest of the day, I decided to cut the hook out of my leg on the water. Mind you the only knife I had was dull. So I heated it up.....and started cutting. It was a painful ordeal, a little messy and one I will not recommend to anyone ever again.

This last summer my wife and I were fishing for bass in the grass out on ten mile lake. We where both throwing spinnerbaits. Not sure if I hit a weed or was bumped but I set the hook hard. Out comes my spinnerbait flying thru the air. Missed me but my wife was not so lucky or maybe she was. It hit her right in the eye. Lucky the hook did not get her but she walked around the rest of the week with a beautiful black eye.

I've been hooked in most all parts of my body, so I wont even go there. smile.gif
My worst and biggest scar from a fishing related accident happened when I was 6 years old. Some friends, brothers, and myself were spearing suckers in Maine on a small stream. Everyone had spears except me, I had a pitch fork.
After we had gotten done spearing God knows how many suckers, we decided to play basketball. I laid my pitch fork on the side of the driveway, tines curved and pointing up. My Mother was yelling out the front door, "Mark, PUT YOUR SHOES ON!!" I totally disregarded her and turned to run the other way.....BAM! Tine right through the foot! The tine went through the top of my foot and straight out the other side. It wasn't so bad untill they pulled it out and I was left with a BIG HOLE in my foot and the blood started to pour out. Needless to say I had to forfeit the game and go to the hospital. smile.gif
Looking at my foot now I see another 2" scar 1" away from the pitch fork one. That one happened the same year while wading in a river catching turtles........I'll save that one for later. grin.gif

When I was 8 yrs. old my Mom and I were fishing on a lake north of Bovey, I was in the back of the boat fishing for Bluegills and my Mom was in the front casting a "HUGE" Daredevil for Northerns. All of a sudden I feel this burning pain as she cast and hooked my right ear!!! Right through the cartilage!!! I let out a scream you could hear up and down the whole lake. My Mom turns around and say's "WHAT ARE YOU YELLING.... OH MY GOD!!!!! We rowed the boat to shore and my Dad cut the hook off with a side cutters, he didn't have to push the barbs through, since they already were, MAN that hurt.

I know someone whose dog got into a box of rapalas, got one in its upper lip. He caught the dog, tried to hold it down, to remove it. Succeeded in hooking himself with the other treble, in the hand. Needed 3 more people (1 to get hook out of his hand & cut hook in dog's lip & 2 to restrain the dog) then off to the vet... and clinic...
