Yup, and they took a pretty darn good team, and in the meantime just weakened it for a 3rd round pick in next years draft. I guess if thats what you want to call brilliance....

I wonder what defensive coordinators are thinking about having to stop arguably the top 2 homerun hitters in the NFL now on the same field together....

Without question it was brilliant. They do have a pretty darn good team (even without Moss) that is young and are now poised to go on a run of playoff years. It's called building a franchise, something Minnesotans have no clue about.

I'd rather hit a bunch of singles than one home run, but the Vikes are desperate and are swinging for the fences with this move.....along with begging Favre to play the last two years (which was really pathetic, BTW). They have an aging team and the window is closing...and fast.

How do they defend against the Vikes? Blitz, blitz, blitz. Favre will be knocked out in short order and it's all over. T-Jack comes in, Moss doesn't get the ball anymore, and you'll see a schism of epic proportions. This team will be finished by the end of the month if they can't secure the O-Line.

I have been hearing that they are using the pick they got for moss and the roster spot so they can make a trade for Vincent Jackson with San Diego.

It actually would be good for them as they can get a younger WR and they are really never keen on signing older vets, even good ones, to long term deals like Moss was looking for.

Sorry but i'd rather hit a home run than a bunch of singles. I've seen enough of the vikings just making the playoffs and have no problem with them going for the throat with Moss. And they sure didnt mortgage their future by trading away what will be.... what, the 85th? 96th? (haha hopefully) pick in next years draft? Please, they didnt trade the farm for Moss. A 3rd rounder is a no brainer.

No kidding. A 3rd round pick for a pro bowl receiver is an absolute no brainer decision. These guys that are not happy about this would probably be complaining just as much if they heard that moss was on the trading block and all they wanted was third round pick and the vikings did not go for it. Some people just love to hate. When moss lights it up and the vikes are back atop the division they will no doubt be singing the praises of this move.

You can talk all you want about how good the Pats are at building a franchise, but when a team is 3-1 and a threat in the AFC, you don't trade your most explosive player, especially on a team with only a decent defense and no running game. For 2-3-4 years down the road, this is a good move for the Pats.... but for this year, a panic/ego move..... It may not work out for the Vikes, but that doesn't mean it isn't the right thing to do right now.

I like how Wild Bill is a supposed genius and all..... I'm all for it when he wins a Superbowl without Tom Brady. If he goes out 10 years from now and finds another diamond in the rough QB or gets it done without a star QB, then I will annoint him. NFL Coaches get WAY TOO MUCH credit.

you don't trade your most explosive player

You do if your smart and the player is a cancer thorn. All the negatitivity on the field, locker room, and press conferences - get rid of it!

Moss may fit right in and help jell the Queens, who knows...

Limitout, I have been reading you post for quite a while. I would much rather go for a home run than singles. You must be a Packer fan and love the fact that you guys did not get Lynch.

Idiots. ANyone that thinks giving up a 3rd rounder for one of the best football players ever is a mistake. Thanks vikes for actually going for it, unlike the twins and the wild who year after year will not make the trade to go for it. SUPER BOWL HOMEBOY

4 games, 9 receptions, 136 yards and you are all ready to bow down to Moss. Definately sounds like the most explosive player in the NFL. Granted the vikes needed this, but your fooling yourself if you think he's changed. He was a tool when he was here the first time, he was a tool in Oakland and they are more than happy to see the back of him in New England. How long do you think it will be before he reverts to his normal behavior? Keep him for this year, maybe next, but dont give him a long term contract.

If they can get Rice and Harven healthy, this could be one heck of a team this season.

Even with Moss's [PoorWordUsage], he will help the Vikes alot.

The price of weed in the Twin Cities just took an increase in price or maybe there will be a shortage. wink

TomW: I completely agree wilh what you have stated. NICE does not sell newspapers. Almost every article I have read this morning has listed every one of his past indescreations. WHY? Because bad sells and nice does not!

His past is his past, leave it buried! I believe Randy Moss is still one of the most dangerous receivers in the game! At 33 years old he is still one of the fastest players in the game. WELCOME HOME RANDY!!!!

Quote:
Moss trade reeks of desperation

FoxSports

As a columnist who totally backed Brett Favre in his showdown with Packers general manager Ted Thompson, it kills me to admit this:

The Minnesota Vikings are living the nightmare Thompson avoided when he dumped Brett Favre for Aaron Rodgers.

Saddled with a 1-2 record, a one-year $20 million contract for Favre and a Super Bowl-or-bust mentality, the Vikings are doubling-down on their conundrum by trading for Randy Moss.

Think about it. The trade of the league’s most talented receiver says far more about the level of desperation in Minnesota than it does about Bill Belichick’s dissatisfaction with Moss or Tom Brady’s inability/unwillingness to land Moss a contract extension in New England.

Oh, you believed the three years of “happy talk” Belichick and Brady showered on Moss? You believed Belichick when he said Moss was the smartest receiver in the league and Brady when he professed his undying loyalty to Moss?

You fell for the pimp game. Belichick and Brady said whatever was necessary to get Moss to show up for practice and run fly patterns on Sundays.

Moss is the unstable, super-hot girl you never marry. You tell her what she needs to hear, you might even give her the code to your garage door but you never commit. You enjoy the ride while it lasts and you move on without any hard feelings.

Moss was never going to retire a Patriot. Belichick got three good years out of Moss and a third-round pick. Mission accomplished.

The story here is Favre, and the actions the Vikings must take to try and make their 40-year-old quarterback happy.

It makes no sense to trade for Moss unless you’re willing to give him a new contract. The lack of a new deal is what caused Moss to be unhappy starting the season and has surely contributed to his nine-receptions-in-four-games start to the 2010 campaign.

So, the Vikings are surrendering a 2011 third-round draft pick for Moss and likely going to hand the 33-year-old deep threat a three- or four-year contract extension with, let’s say conservatively, $12 million in guaranteed salary.

Yep, Vikings owner Zygi Wilf is going all in, pushing all of his chips into the middle of the table. The acquisition of Favre left him no choice. Once the Vikes $weetened Favre’s 2010 salary they gave the Old Gunslinger all of the leverage. This year, Favre is basically co-owner of the Vikings.

Favre has wanted to play with Moss for four years. Thompson’s reluctance to pursue Moss in 2007 ignited much of the bitterness between Favre and Thompson. Moss had a record-breaking 2007 season in New England, catching 23 touchdown passes and helping the Patriots complete an undefeated regular season.

Does Moss have any of that magic left?

Bill Belichick doesn’t think so. Mr. Bill has made his name ruthlessly jettisoning big-name Pats at the very moment their production slipped.

I can envision Favre getting Moss focused and excited for the rest of this season. Moss will take the eighth defender out of the box, move the safeties back a few yards and create additional running lanes for Adrian Peterson.

The problem is, Moss isn’t going to block for Favre or cure Percy Harvin’s health problems. Pass protection, and Harvin’s inconsistent practice habits and play have been the issues slowing the Minnesota offense.

I still contend Favre, the NFL’s iron man, won’t survive the season in one piece.

Rex Ryan and the Jets -- Minnesota’s opponent Monday night -- are not afraid of Randy Moss, especially with Darrelle “The Human Blanket” Revis returning to the lineup. The Jets are going to get after Favre.

Playing in New York, it’s likely the Vikings fall to 1-3. Then what? They host Dallas and travel to Green Bay and New England -- 1-6 or 2-5 are real possibilities.

OK, the NFC is such a mediocre mess that 9-7 would be a strong wild-card resume. Do you see the Vikings winning two or three playoff road games to reach the Super Bowl?

Yep, this is looking like the nightmare Ted Thompson envisioned. Favre is going to leave Minnesota $20 million richer and the Vikings are going to be stuck with a middle-aged, moody receiver who struggles to give consistent effort.

Zygi Wilf originally acquired Favre to win a Super Bowl and inspire Minnesotans to pay for a new stadium. It appears he’ll have to settle for Randy Moss.

What's more desperate? Trading for a HOF'er with a sketchy past, or scouring the internets all day to find ammunition to make your opinion seem smarter?

I'm still looking for that professional team in ND...... I'm almost to Bozeman already. Haven't met any failures yet though, so that is good.
