picksbigwagon
I would call them again, or stop by........in a friendly manner.
creepworm
Took one in during firearms season last year. Got a call on Tuesday and saying it was done. I would think yours would be getting done pretty soon.
eyeguy 54
Depends on how busy your guy is. Some take 3-4 months, some might be 2 years. Stop by and ask is a good plan.
LOTWSvirgin
My taxidermist is just got his stuff back from the tanner so depending on when yours does it could be a while its a safe bet to expect to wait a year
Archerysniper
I allways figure atleast a year to get a mount back. My friend is now doing taxidermy and is awesome I had my 11 point done by a taxidermist that does work for allot of the safari hunters and and whitetail pros and my buddies work looked just as good for half the price. He has his own tanning machine at home so that cut down on the time. I dropped my buck off on Dec 8th and had it back around april 1st. Walleye Guy
Most good taxidermists have a backlog and take a while. They batch their tanning or send them out and that takes time. Don't be surprised or concerned by a year or more wait. Personally I would be more concerned by a raxidermists that quotes short turn around times. In my opinion that means they done have a ton of business. Again only my opinion.
TDH
On my deer my taxidermist quoted me ten months and I got it back in just under nine months. I got my deer just before the gun season so I got it in before all the gun hunters dropped theirs off. My taxidermist said that if I would have waited until after the gun season it would have taken a year or more to get it back.
Code-Man
Mine says don't call to bother him because it takes time away from him working but he usually says at month 10 or 11 to call to see how it's gearing up. Guy I take mine to is so busy it usually goes 10-14 months.
Muthagoose
Quote: Most good taxidermists have a backlog and take a while Exactly right.. I'm a minimum of a year+. Used to have pushy clients. No longer, weeded them out simply by informing them that the time I spend on the phone with them will be added to their bill... Being now by referral only has ended that issue.. I suggest if you like the work being done be paitent would you really want them to RUSH?
hockeybc69
Got my sons back in May. Turned out as good as my expectations were. I hate waiting a year. Kid in the candy store feeling.
harvey lee
I would say that any of the better guys will take at least 1 year.If the cape is sent to maybe the best tannery in the U.S. in Ca., it may take 4-5 months to get it back from them. hockeybc69
Thats probably the case most of the time, but to basically say there are no good taxidermists if you have to wait less than a year is downright silly.
harvey lee
I by far am not saying all good ones take that long but the majority will.
Coach1310
Mine says don't call to bother him because it takes time away from him working but he usually says at month 10 or 11 to call to see how it's gearing up. Guy I take mine to is so busy it usually goes 10-14 months. A phone call from a customer takes 1 minute! I wouldn't use someone who won't return a phone call or deters customers from contacting them. If they tell you 10 months and it has been 11, you have every right to call. If they can't call you back or don't want you to call, find a guy/gal who will. There are plenty of really good taxi's out there....
creepworm
We use one that tans the hides himself so that probably saves quite a bit of time.
