ESPN cancels shows?

It was announced on yesterday. They will still have Bassmasters shows and the Classic but everything else is gone. They are replacing it with soccer and Nascar. Looks like a lot less time for me and espn.

There shows are terrible anyway. Not much of a loss in my opinion. The bassmaster coverage has gone down hill every year since they have taken over. I look at this as a good thing and hopefully BASS will be sold and they can get back to the old way of running things.

I still have some old VHS videos of the Bassmasters from Minnetonka with Bob Cobb. That guy will forever by "the voice of bassmasters" in my mind! I think they had more fishing coverage in the old 30 minute show than the hour long versions today...

I know that the outdoor channel had interest in buying B.A.S.S. This doesn't surprise me, EPSN has done nothing to push this sport. They wont even do live coverage of the Classic like everyone has been asking for. I just hope whoever get B.A.S.S has good camera work because FLW is nothing like B.A.S.S has right now!!!

I agree that most of their fishing shows wouldn't be missed, but the World's Greatest Fishing Show is very entertaining. I'd definitely miss that one!

Overall, B.A.S.S needs new ownership!

Hiya -

Can't say I'm all that surprised by this. ESPN hasn't thrown much support behind the outdoors market in a while, other than holding steady with their Elite coverage. Plus the advertising market for that kind of programming is really tough right now regardless of what network you're on.

I kind of think the bubble is bursting a little bit for the half hour outdoors show. Too much competition for ad dollars from a relatively small number of advertisers with pockets deep enough to fund national shows even on a cable network. A lot of those advertisers are also cutting back on the number of shows they sponsor. One major player I know of cut the number of half hour shows they sponsored from 14 down to 5 a couple years ago - and the 5 they kept all took major cuts.

Glad I'm not in the TV business...

Cheers,

Rob Kimm
