Boar
Been getting opinions on these, Heard they work great when the wind is down, but also heard they give off a smell when fired up, any experience with these things? When i bait an hunt bear i always spray down with the same spray baiting an hunting an the bears get familiar with it an have had great success this way, I guesse if it aint broke dont fix it. just wondering on personal experience of users. Pooh
yay... wont go back in the woods without it, and a recharge kit, in my pack. they work great. i was never sure about em. I asked a guy that bear hunts how he deals with mosquitos. he straight out said the same wont go to his stand without a thermacell.
Random guy
I made it policy to ban them from our hunters after last year. Hunters using good old bug suits had multiple bear and tagged out early, hunters using ThermaCells we had a hard time keeping bear on the baits. I didn't put it all together until one of our hunters blew a U-joint on his truck. I was lying under his truck working on replacing the joint as the bugs where feasting on me, he gets his ThermaCell and lays it next to me and the odor was unbelievable! If I can smell it I can't even imagine how well the bear can smell it.

hookset
Yes, Yes, Yes...I used it for the first time bear hunting last fall. Saw plenty of bear and shot a 470 dressed boar. I did smell the unit. Not sure if the bears could, if they did they didnt care. I also use a coon [PoorWordUsage] cover sent around my stand. I will continue to use it till it cost me an animal. but i have only heard great thing about them.Joe

ac777
If they could make it so the burning had some sort of a honey smell, I think they would be on to something.

BRULEDRIFTER
What if you put a few drops of deer pee on an earth scented waffer? A buddy of mine does it and swears by it.
bigbucks
Never bear hunted before, but was using my Thermocell last opener in WI when I stuck a doe at about 10 yards. The skeeters were so bad there, even that was only thinning them when I was gutting her. WI opener was 9/12 last year & we were hunting low ground next to a river. charliepete
I've got a thermacell, it's nice for keeping the bugs down while fishing and cleaning fish, but I don't use it on stand. I don't know if it would bother a bears nose or not, but even with a thermacell on you still get the occasional skeet messing with you. I just wear long sleeves, and headned and gloves. It gets hot, but I find it easier to sit dead still when I'm totally protected.
East Rush Rules
I love my themacell, and used it for the first time bowhunting this last year. I will say that i had does and fawns around me early season while using it, and they never seemed to care or bust me. With that said, I am always very cautious and am constantly making sure the wind is right so i wont get busted. I have never hunted bear, so im not to sure if they are bothered by them?! DTro
I love my Thermacell, but yes when the wind is right you can get a good whiff of it.I sometimes wonder how healthy it is to breath it in? It says that it is highly lethal to fish, which is kind of scary. They do a good job of keeping the skeeters at bay though.

alex1
They make a grill now that you can put over the heater part that you can put your own scent on. My buddy spread hoey on the pad, let it dry, and then took it out. Said he could smell honey evening long. He also tried it with deer urine, and said it smelled terrible but doesn't know if worked or not.
mudslinger64
i won't hunt without one again,i got 3 deer and a bear bowhunting.i also try to keep the wind in my face as much as possible when in my stands so the smell doesn't travel into my shooting area.
