Coach1310
The way I see it.... the trade was a pretty good move for the Vikes for a few reasons...#1. We did gain a pick-7th and we improved our position in the 4th. The 4 spots we move down won't keep us from landing the player we want. If the Vikes thought that, there is no way we make the deal.#2. I would say that Best would have still been there if the Lions had stayed put.... I would say at least 80% chance, so I don't think we did them a favor, we just used their "WANT" to our advantage.#3. We saved a couple of million by moving down to the second pick in Round 2 vs. #30 overall.I don't think they will take Clausen. If that is the guy they really wanted, I think we would have just taken him, but it is almost a LOCK that he will be there unless St. Louis trades their pick and with the new format and a whole day for teams to trade that is a decent possibility so I just don't see them taking Clausen. I think they SHOULD take him or McCoy, to me that is the best value, but I doubt they will.
zepman
Chris Landry claims the Vikes have McCoy higher on their board than Clausen...who really knows though. Spielman (KFAN) said that the Vikes have 4 players that they've pegged for the early second round pick and that they'd be happy with any of the four. Some serious talent still on the board...KindlePriceClausenDunlapMays........all would look nice in Purple.
koonie
I want Tebow so bad I can hardly stand it. I do not see us picking a CB now in the first round, especially because of the depth at that position in the draft (difficult to separate the late 1st and 2nd round CB's). Tebow would be such a good pick, I'd take him over Clausen any day of the week. The kid is off the charts with every intangible you could ask for, and his throwing mechanic can be worked on. Other notable recent QB's with his issue: Aaron Rodgers and Phillip Rivers. Tebow is a no-brainer at 30, and I can't understand the negativity around him. He's a winner and a leader, you can't teach that. comparing tebow to rivers and rodgers. ROFLMAO!! He is a winner and a leader. He isn't an nfl quarterback though. would be a great team mate though. koonie
Next year will be better since the Vikings will have already made their pick by now. LMAO!!! Doubtful. Funny though.

Jim Uran
Why would they want Clausen? He isn't that great. Look at his record.
pikestabber
Take Clausen, develop him under Fav-rays wing, and ship him out next year (just before the draft) for McNabb. I can see it happening. He wasn't gone at 30 and he will still be there at 34. I hope they don't consider McCoy...he's got bust written all over him. As far as the swap, I was angry at first since I watched 3.5 hours of boring draft to get to our pick, then they trade it! Great move, though. Either whoever they wanted was gone by then or they felt he would be there at #34...either way, they moved up in the fourth and added a pick later on. I can live with that! Kudos to Detroit for an A+ off-season. They may win four or five games this year... Side note, I thought they might take J. Best at 30, so does this mean Albert Young gets the nod, or do we have another trick up our sleeve? Knock on wood, but I have been very pleased with Chilly's team in terms of the draft in recent years.

Looks like I'm not the only one who thinks he will be a great NFL quarterback...look at how the draft played out. Tebow shares so much with Rodgers its uncanny, and with time to learn I think Tebow would be a star. I just hope he gets that time in Denver, he would have had it here. james_walleye
I called it earlier in the week on here that i thought the vikings would move down. I wouldnt be surprised to see it happen again and move down from the 34th. Lots of teams have to be drooling at moving up to nab Clausen or Kindle. I have mixed feelings on Clausen. I mean the vikings have to address the future at some point but i don't know if Clausen is the guy. I see Taylor Mays coming but i have to admit, as well as the vikings have drafted under Speilman if they went Clausen i wouldnt be disappointed. walleyes12
I see the Vikes trading down again, the bills and cleveland are looking for a qb, it would be a nice trade and then pick Taylor Mays.
Fish Head
James, you did say you wouldn't be surprised to see them move down. Good call. Spielman said they attempted to move up for a specific player they wanted, but they couldn't get the trade done. I wonder who the player was?Anyone who saw Clausen play last year had to be impressed. 28 touchdowns, 4 interceptions, 3722 yards and a 161 passer rating (that passer rating is sick!). MUCH better QB than Tebow. I'm sure that Character is why he is still available. The rap on him is he might be a little bratty, like Jay Cutler. If he had Tebow’s character, he might have been number #1 overall. Some teams had him rated higher than Bradford. We will need a QB soon. I'd like to have one sit on the bench a year or two to learn before he plays. This might be as good of an opportunity as we will ever get.Several good players are still available. Spielman said there are 4 players available right now that they like. Maybe they'll move down again?
BRULEDRIFTER
If we get Clausen, does that mean Gedney will no longer be our state pickle?
zepman
New Englands pick was the one we were after...Vikes wanted McCourty or Wilson.I like Mays...hope they pick him at 34. I would like him better at outside linebacker rushing the passer than a safety though. Serious speed coming off the corner and could cover any tight-end in the league. lawdog
Decker's injury prone. That's the only thing that might hurt him.
soldoncass
I think the Vikes will pick between Mays and Allen for safety, or Washington and Lee for LB...depending on which position they feel has greatest need. Allen seems like a better ballhawk, so he's my guess...and Lee seems to fit the Vikes mold better, so he's my guess there.Hmmmm.....how can they get both......hmmmmm. Wild card is Cody (DT), may be hard to pass on. If they draft a QB at all I guess Leflour, or McCoy if he's there in the 4th round. Decker would be a great possession receiver, but may not have the speed Chili seems to pick.
Scott K
Decker's injury prone. That's the only thing that might hurt him. But how much of his injuries were due to him being used like a running back, or tight end, and only having the light wide receiver pads on? I know that really doesnt matter. Agreed, I think too many people watch too many draft shows and start winging around the cliches. Just because one has had injuries does not mean they are injury prone. Decker was the lone good receiver for the Gophers for many years, took a lot of hits, and made a ton of plays while commanding double and triple coverage. He's had two big injuries that I can remember. I would personally categorize them more as playing injuries versus the guy's body being prone to getting injured constantly. He will make a great third or second receiver for some lucky team. He just needs to work on his route running a bit more.
zamboni
Not that I see.It looks like all the Vikings did was improve their position in the fourth round.edit: The only extra pick they got is one in the 7th round. yippee....
