New Liscense

Fly2day

Recommended Posts

The girlfriend bought a fishing liscense yesterday, and it said it expires in two days!?!? Is that right I always thought they were for a year, having known it would be 18 bucks for 2 days we would have just waited. Does anyone know how that works

Yeah ill have her call them on monday, but we got it late last night at about 830p so i would think the system would have been updated. Hopefully they will change it otherwise we will go to the big box store we got it from and have them change it or get our money back. Thanks for the info.

Angling licenses are valid from March 1 through April 30 of the following year.

I do not know for sure, but if you had planned to fish Saturday and Sunday, You would need the 2009 to April 30th 2010 license. Otherwise a "new" license would be good from Monday March 1st till April 30th of 2011 the way I understand it.

Just remember your Mileage may differ confused

Good luck with that? I think you will have a better time contacting the state. But ya ur license should be from now until April 30th

The state really messed this whole issue up when they went to the 13 month license. If your 2009 license is good from March 1, 2009 to April 30,2010 and your 2010 license is good from March 1, 2010 to April 30th, 2011 then by how I see it this means that your 2 licenses are over lapping in the months of March and April 2010. so my question is does this mean your 2009 license then becomes invalid or does it mean that you actually have two valid licenses. I would not do this but if both licenses are still valid could a person try and take a limit of sunnies and crappies on each license. My suggestion to the state would be to change the license year to January 1 of each year to December 31 of that same year. no issues just buy the license on January 1 each year if they went to this.

No, you cant take 2 limits.

That would suck if it was changed to January 1st. The point of having it in the spring is so it doesn't cut right in the middle of the open water or ice season.

I cant imagine people would like to have to switch licenses/buy a new one halfway through their trip.

They didn't go to a permanent 13 month license. Last year they changed the regulations so that the expiration date will be April 30th going forward, but this meant that for one year (2009) there was an overlap to get everybody on the same schedule.

The reason they moved it to April 30th was to prevent issues that have been mentioned here.....licenses expiring over a weekend when people are out fishing. April 30th was picked because it is a date that wasn't during ice fishing and still prior to the open water season. Yes, I know there are still fishing seasons open on April 30th, but this was the best time to have licenses expire when there are fewer affected.

So long story longer, last year was somewhat messed up, but everybody will be on the same schedule for 2010 when the licenses start May 1st and expire April 30th the following year.

Thanks agian for all the replies, i guess it makes sense she has never had a fishing liscense before so i guess it would be for the rest of this year. I never really thought about it cause the two would always overlap, just alittle mind bender for me the other night trying to figure it all out...

The fishing licenses expire on April 30th 2010, BUT the new 2010 - 2011 licenses come out on March 1st (some places may have them, but the Gander I went to did not yet). If you buy a license before March 1st then it will expire on April 30th 2010. Which makes this weekend tougher in my opinion to make it worth it!

If you wait till monday though, you can buy a new license that expires on April 30th 2011 and YES you can fish with this license in March and April of 2010. It becomes a valid license when you sign it at the store!

I usually hold onto my old one as well but once I buy the new one it doesn't matter anymore. For dairyman - any chance you bought a sportsman license? Mine also has Feb 28, 2010 but then under the angling says April 30th 2009. Not sure if just a fishing license says Feb 28th on it or April 30th.

    • Sorry to hear that Duff. Will give my GSP's an extra scratch behind the ear for you guys today
    • Aw, man, sorry to hear that.  Shed some tears and remember her well.  They all take a piece of our hearts with them; some more than others.
    • yes sorry for your loss..  our dogs are always special...
    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
