The Classic is coming!

With the classic just over a week away I guess it's about time to get the ball rolling.

Lets start with predictions.

1-Ike

2-Duckett

3-My long shot, Randy Howell

Next question is does anybody know the TV schedule yet? Dates and times.

Mostly concerned with Sunday.

look on the espn HSOforum for schedule. Ike, really? I cant stand that guy. Looks like the water temps are only in the 40s down there. I look to see Martins and a local by the name of Russ Lane to do well in the cold weather. I dont think KVD will slow down enough for the fish, but if the sun comes out he could do well cause he is always a threat.

Hiya -

This year's Classic is kind of a tough one to handicap. May really depend on the weather. If it stays cold and it's a Spotted Bass deal, Martens, Ike, or even someone like Takahiro Omori might have a pretty good shot. If it warms up a little, and the LMB bite gets going some of the shallow water specialists like Brauer might get on a roll and surprise some people. Plus guys like Reese and KVD are a threat in any case. A streaky guy like Todd Faircloth could get on a roll too, and he's done well on Lay Lake in the past.

All in all though, pretty hard to bet against Duckett to make it 2 for 2 on Lay. He has the lake wired, and if the bite's variable and a guy needs spots to fill a sack and a couple LMB kickers, he probably has an advantage.

Ike is going to be using Abu Garcia rods? For the last few years it's been Diawa.

Diawa dropped Ike and a couple other guys this year. He has been with Pure Fishing as well so now instead of just using there baits he will be dabuting there new rod at the classic.

I agree. I like him (not fav) and he is one of more versitle guys out there. I think he has a shot at this one just due to how good he was last year and he has that ability to do something that nobody will try, much like AM.

I actually really like Ike. Have any of you read his book? He is so passionate about the sport of fishing and I love watching him get excited when he catch's a key fish! Wouldn't you be happy if that one fish could net you a couple thousand dollars and you needed that money to make a living?!? He is always a threat IMO to win any tournament due to the fact that he can adapt to any condition you throw at him...

I don't won't this to turn into an ike thread - but no one will doubt his talent and abilities - we just don't like his mouth most of the time. Like kvd said - I never understood celebrating catching a big fish - i will celebrate when i am holding the trophy. - spoken like the man that he is

I'm going with Duckett. Through the efforts of custom rod builders, very tiny guides are now being used on bass rods. These guides ( nicknamed "micro guides") really get a lot of weight off the upper third of the rod. Boyd has met with some custom builders from the SE and has now come out with his own line of rods with micros. If he places with these rods it will be a big deal. This type of exposure will really get the ball rolling. Good stuff!

why do you guys not like ike? Hes not may favorite fisherman, but one of the best in the biz forsure!

Ha Ha Ha.

Oh he is a good fisherman. One of the best when there is a tough bite. He just requires way to much attention. When a guy starts his hook set in the front of the boat and ends up in the back of the boat, almost taking the camerman out in the prosses. You just have to know the guy is dieing for air time.

The thing that really gets me about some of these guys is when they are on camera you want to choke them. Ike is one of these guys. if I am watching a show I taped during the day at night and he catches a fish I have to mute it so the kids don't wake up, that gets old. If you meet him away from the cameras he is a GREAT guy and easy to talk to. One of the best teachers you will ever meet. Shaw Grigsby and Jimmy Houston are two more guys I can't watch on TV but are great in person. At the classic a couple years ago I saw Shaw leave a group of adult tournament anglers to go and talk to a little kid for about 10 minutes. In my book thats pretty cool. (I still can't watch his show) I guess I wish they could just be normal on camera.

I guess then I probably wouldn't be talking about them then.
