Does the inside of your Clam look like this?????

I bought a Clam Command Post, the first one I bought I took out at night to fish and the carry strap on the bag tore off. I returned it and got a new one, took it out during the day (brand new) and this is what the walls look like inside. Look to me like the walls were scratched or thin and wearing, but maybe this is what they all look like and I don't need to worry. Thoughts?

I just got the Clam 2000 for xmas this year. Its not as big as the command post but has the same material. Mine looks nothing like that. The canvas was in perfect condition out of the box. I would take that back if I was you.

Thats just too much money to spend on something that has wear and tear right out of the box.

That is what I thought- I am taking it back to Gander again. But as far as the packed up wet.....I would hope this unit could be packed up wet and hold up, as I plan on packing it up wet almost everytime I go out. Does anyone know where I can still find an Eskimo Quickfish 6 (seem to be out everywhere)? maybe I should try that route, 2 bad ones so far from Clam.

Seems excessive for a brand new shack. In my experience, you will have some of that as it gets use. I see a little of that in my FT Pro and Otter Lodge - but both have been used quite a bit. My Eskimo pop-up/hub style shack has been used a few times and is showing no signs of that type of wear - still look brand new.

I agree with Auggie, bring it back. May want to consider an Eskimo version. IMO You'll love the removable windows, better ice screws, pops up/takes down very easily, and the bag is designed better for carrying on your back.

You should expect things to look like new when you buy them, but I would think you will get very minimal gains as far as performance with a new (cosmetically perfect) one.

Sometimes you end up wasting time and energy for what amounts to nothing. Even if you do replace it, I would expect it to look like that after several uses anyways.

I’m not trying to say that you should accept a shoddy product, but if you like the house it might not be worth the effort to get a new one, especially if you spent any amount of time assembling it.

But...if not much time or effort is required, yeah get it replaced, especially if it makes you feel better about it. That is what return policies are for. smile

I would not settle for that and if Gander Mountain does not take it back I would contact Clam directly and they will deal with you as they have wonderful customer service from my expirience.....I have a clam pro and it has been heavily used for 6-7 years and I do not have wear like that and I have an X2 that I have had going on the 2nd season and it has absolutly no wear like that.....Clam is a good company and they will take care of you!!!

Kind of hard to tell from the pics. Does it appear to be canvas wear or perhaps mold? I've had my voyegeur for 9 years and it has definitley been put away wet and has no wear as you show. In the spring when it gets nice out I will set it up in my driveway and clean out the sled and allow the whole unit to really air out good before I store it for the summer. Have gotten a few queer looks from people driving by and the portie is set up in the drive. I just tell em I like to fish away from the crowd..... crazy

My Pro looks like that in a few places. It was like that from new. I think it is not full coverage of the coating that clam puts on the inside to get it black and so the canvas doesn't get wet. I don't know what you think this slightly missing coating is going to hurt you performance wise but it didn't bother me. It's not like you will have an air penatration problem.

I got a quickfish 3 and the first time I set it up I noticed the samething but I dont think it was as bad. The conclusion I came up with for it scratches for the hubs but by no means did or does nine look that bad out of the box or at a year old now. It dont affect nothing though just looks crappy

buddy of mine bought a new clam and also had bad luck with the bag it comes in and overlooked that cause you dont fish out of the bag but when we got to the lake there was a zipper that was only sewn to one of the two sides for the door and the other side never sewn at all needless to say now we're fishin in an eskimo with way more quality built in it. also have my own eskimo quikfish and after 200 set-ups and downs doesnt look as bad as that clam.

Joe's sporting goods has the quickfish6. call them up and see if they still have any left.

I bought one and sold it after the 1st use. I've never seen a mateial drip as bad as the quickfish 6. I picked up a clam thermal and it doesnt get wet and drippy...

It appears to me the inner coating was scraped, damaged, or very thin at the least, also the seams look stressed and exposed. I would return it immediately with your receipt, you have very valid concerns in my opinion. None of the Command Posts I have seen look like that.

I dont think this is a coincidence. My clam is like this also and purchased brand new. So is my buddies. Typically more apparent on the lower end models? I am not that bothered by it.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
