nofishfisherman
So I am thinking of getting a Wii after playing it with some friends. But I'd like to get some input from other people first. The main reason I would like to get one is because its something fun to do with a group of friends. It can be pretty fun to have a tennis tournament or boxing matches. How many different games are there for the Wii that can be played with groups of people?I noticed that you can get Modern Warfare for the Wii as well which I was unaware off. I am wondering if anyone has played it or similar games like that on Wii. I know the graphics aren't as good as you would get on a PS3 but is it still pretty good? How is the playability of games like that? I've heard it can be a little more fun because you are actually using the controllers to aim and shoot, and you can get gun type controllers which makes it more real. But I don't want it to get too easy or way to hard. Any input or thoughts on the Wii console would be appreciated. Its the first console that my wife seemed somewhat ok with having in the house. MeyersBros
We have a wii at our house and its a blast at parties. Wii bowling and tennis can get pretty intense. Also the wii is a really good family counsel, so if you have kids i would recommend it! There are a ton of games to play, i found the most fun ones are just the classic games like bowling and tennis, Mario-kart is a must have! I'm not sure about gun games, I'm sure they would be fun but might be hard to get used to. I have tiger woods’ and i never play it because its to hard so be careful with the games you do buy, you don’t want to be wasting money. The fishing games is pretty sweet! you get to fish lake Minnetonka which is kind of fun! If you’re looking for a counsel to play on your own i doubt you would want the wii. The only time we ever play it is when we have a party our a group of friends over. I don’t think i have ever played it by myself Hope this helps and have fun with it! merkman
I love the shuffle board game on the Wii.You can connect over the internet and play out of town friends too.
LwnmwnMan2
If you're not a huge gamer, the Wii will do just fine. It's comparable to graphics of a PS2, +/-.You can play MW2 on a Wii just fine, but the online / multiplayer is going to be limited. dan z
plain and simple its a great thing to have around when your S/S. the new resort game is freakin fun as he!! and are most of the other wii created games. (play),(sports),(party) I also love mario cart and guitar hero.
skee0025
If all your looking for are games like bowling , tennis, boxing or kids titles like bratz and mario cart the wii is perfect for you. If you would like to play an adult oriented game( Bioshock, Halo ect..) look elsewhere. Had I known that they had no intention of supporting most titles that get released or of even coming up with a few decent games of their own I would never had wasted my money on one. For the most part I feel this is a good system for the 10 and under crowd but pretty much worthless after that.
nofishfisherman
I'm not a huge gamer, the last system I owned was Super Nintendo. I'd like to play Modern Warfare but I can't justify buying a PS3 just for that so I thought the Wii but be a good alternative plus it would be a ton of fun at parties. I'll probably look closer at what games are available and look at the game play of each and see if its something I want. Thanks for the input. FISHINGURU
PS3 is way better but wii is fun...PS3 comes with a bluray player which rules.
nofishfisherman
If it were just for me I'd go PS3 for sure. But the wife would never play a PS3 so I'd spend more money and I'd be the only one you would play it. The PS3 is also not as group friendly with the exception of Rock Band. LwnmwnMan2
I don't understand the badmouth about the Wii.When it first came out, no one gave it more than 6 months; there weren't going to be enough games. Now people say "if you want to play 'REAL' games, you need a PS3 or 360".The only reason you'd need something other than a Wii, would be to play online, which Halo or MW2 are the two big named games and the main reason they're such a hit.If you're going to use it for a party console, or as your kids grow, you'll be fine, and you'll be in for less $$$ than the other two. There's over 100 games now for the Wii, with a MUCH larger cross section of games that 3 year olds to 90 could play. hookjunior
We bought a wii for our kids last christmas, they sure like it but I hardly ever touch. I still prefer to play video games with an old school controller while sitting on the couch. If I wanna do stuff, like bowling, I will go do stuff I don't need to virtually do stuff. skee0025
There's over 100 games now for the Wii, with a MUCH larger cross section of games that 3 year olds to 90 could play. You pretty much hit the nail on the head about why there is bad mouthing about the Wii. You will find about 100 games when you hit a big box store. A majority aimed at the pre teen market. With titles that start like LegoXXX, BratzXXX or DanceXXX or that are Tie-ins to kids animated movies. You get about a dozen of the Guitar/dj/band hero line. The same number focused on the Wii Fit. Throw in the lame Mario line, 3 or 4 hunting titles and the Wii sports line and you have pretty much summed up what you can expect out of a Wii. Whats left is about 2 dozen Wii only titles that never took off due to their lameness and what you have left after that is the bone they occassionaly toss out, Titles like Force Unleashed, Zelda and modern warfare. So if your content playing games designed to be played by those 3 to 90 have at it. If you want a little more out of a system choose something else. Correct, and the original poster was lamenting about how he'd like to get a console that would be useful at a party / with a group of friends. He was wondering if the graphics on the Wii are any good.I believe they're every bit as good as the PS2, and it's the ideal machine for a party / group of friends.XBox and PS3 are ideal if you're a gamer that's going to be more focused on playing online, or solo. magic_minnow
Boom Blox is a good group game, as well as the trivia games. People really get into the trivia games.
Eckie
We have a Wii --- absolutely love it. No, I'm not a huge "gamer" as some call it, but then again I don't have time to play video games 24/7. I think the Wii is a great fit for the initial reasons mentioned -- 1. the graphics are great 2. it's great for parties (Ie - large groups of people)3. it's great for the family (great variety of family friendly games for a variety of ages)4. Online shopping for games/downloads, and, 5. (my personal favorite), online Tiger Woods. It fits the bill for many preferences -- Nofishfisherman -- you definitely won't regret buying one. DTro
The WII did exactly what it went out do do. Grab some of the market share. It fits the bill perfectly for a lot of folks, and comes up short for a lot others. Casual gaming and the younger crowd, it's tough to beat the WII. I bought one not too long after it came out and back to the store it went the next day. Not my cup 'o tea.

And before you get all huffy dtro, my posts are right after yours.
Surface Tension
Got a Wii in my house, I guess it does what we need it to do. If it dosen't get played often it is not because it can't do something, its because we have something better to do. Which is a good thing. As said if your a big gamer then look elsewhere. Another plus for the 360 or xbox not sure which but the bluray player is a bonus and if you watch Netflix you can use one(not sure which)to watch instant movies. Big Dave2
We are getting my 9 yr old son a Wii for xmas. He has a ps2 that works when it wants to also. I thought for sure that he would ask for a PS3 this year but to my delight he would rather have a wii.In my opinion, I would rather him play these active, nice games if he is going to play any at all. Plus I think the wii is something that my wife and I will probably be more willing to play with him. You guys can have your modern warfare and whatever, I just don't care for it and I hope my son never gets too caught up in "gaming" either. Theres too much to do outside! wishing for walleyes
My kids are all grown and gone. Now i have a ps2,ps3,xbox all just being dust collectors.Would be a waste of money for me to buy a wii.Just dont make the time for these games. The Grebe
Huh? We played it with some friends and it was fun? Not a big gamer, not a gamer at all as a matter of fact. We bowl, golf, play cards, horse shoes, etc. and about the only games we play are at the casino. But, we do have people over now and then, so when the Wii went on sale at the red bullseye last week for $199.00, we got one. I expect our company will like it? Daughter is 26 and she likes it, so do sons 37 and 39...no younger kids around, so I guess it will do?

Gamestop is running a special if you trade in a PS2 you can get a new Wii for $149.If you don't play those, and you're not a big gamer, I'd find someone that has a Wii, play some of the games. I realize it's not a big exercise program, but the bowling, table tennis, regular tennis, and some of the other programs will get you up and out of the chair, increase your heartbeat SOME and allow you to have fun, even if you DO stink at games. You could probably sell the other 3 consoles and buy a Wii, a couple of games, and still have money left over. chasineyes
Theres too much to do outside! AMEN!!!!! james_walleye
My parents got a wii and we hooked it up yesterday. My 2 kids (3-5), my mom and dad, and 3 of my sisters and one of their boyfriends pretty much had it running all day. We had a blast and really never got any farther than the bowling. I already told the wife we will be getting one for the kids for christmas.
