slabchaser
I thought if the gun was strictly a muzzleloader and didnt have interchangable barrels that the FFL forms werent used. This must of been a recent change because I worked in a hunting dept. at a sporting goods store about three years ago and thats how it was then. Ryan_V
Either of the domestic assault convictions could have been felonies, but the media usually makes it a point to mention that if any previous convictions were felonies, and the fact that he only served 120 days on the last domestic assault conviction implies it was a misdemeanor. That's all just guesswork, of course. you can only be sentenced to 90 days on a misdemeanors in MN. for it to be 120 days, it would have to be a Gross Misd, or a felony. Svinekotelett
0nly iowa and illinois have trophy bucks, lol. Hopefully he gets a felony so hes one step closer to prison. On a side note, not all felons should have there firearms privleges revoked. For example, an 18 year old gets arested for having a couple pounds of grass, Then pays his dues, completes treatment and wants to start a new sober life lets say maybe by becoming an outdoorsmen. but he cant purchase a firearm, hunting liscense or even vote... Just one of hundreds of scenerios in which the laws need to be open to discretion. Anyway hopefully this world class archer (poacher) goes to jail and has to pay every cent of that 19,000 doller fine. sadly he'll prolly get probation and a 1000 fine, because the fishing with an extra line wont even hardly be considered a previous problem because likly there was no conviction of any sort. remington 300
as far as the taxidermist goes, im surprised he even took it to mount, most taxidermists REQUIRE your license and registration before even handling your game, and considering all the attention a buck that big would bring, seems foolish! FISHINGURU
follow along...the guy didn't tag the doe and 8 point buck he previously shot but he did tag and register the trophy with his 1 and only tag. so everything with this buck at the taxidermist was legit, only problem was the guy had already illegally took 2 other deer making this one void...he shouldn't of even been in the woods.it happens all over because of the greedy hunters that like to take bucks with archery but still want to take bucks gun hunting....the main reason i practice QDM is because i hold my one and only buck tag to the bitter end so i have a chance for my trophy...some other hunters still look for their trophy all year but take bucks in the meantime.imagine how bad it stings right now if on this particular hunt he did it fair and legit but didn't tag or register the other deer...that will teach ya quick i bet!! 96trigger
Nothing about this guy was fair and legit. Just by not tagging the other deer, he was already not legit.

witgey&water
Work with a guy who knows him. From everything he has told me it sound like another case of the media out to get sportsman and hunters. Will have to wait and see. I just hope if the media is wrong they apologize to him and all hunters
CatchPhotoFilet
someone who does something like this didnt take much time or thought in how to get away with it. Should of kept his mouth shut for sure. The dumb ones are the ones who get caught. A little thought and this deer could be hanging in his house, no fines and nobody would know the better. From everything he has told me it sound like another case of the media out to get sportsman and hunters. Will have to wait and see. I just hope if the media is wrong they apologize to him and all hunters He's been charged with 13 counts of poaching related crimes. If someone's proven wrong over those charges it'll be investigators/prosecutors, not the media. The media did not invent the charges. The media no doubt has its share of troubles, but you're pretty far off base here, IMO.
jparrucci
I agree with Steve, the media has nothing to do with this. This guy was busted by the DNR. He has a long and lengthy criminal record, include game violates, and also VIOLENCE. This joker is a career criminal from the fact of his lengthy rap sheet. NOBODY here should be defending people like this who give us real sportsmen a black eye.

Does he/she have an agenda too?CmonThis case is getting press because it’s the biggest 8pt deer every recorded and it “sells”. You really think the media would be running with it if he shot 3 does instead? Not a chance. To me it’s all the same, he broke the law. I personally don’t think it’s any worse because of the size if the deer, just happens to be coincidence. Just gets more attention due to the circumstances. If he broke a game law, then he should be punished accordingly and not just because it was a big deer. Steve Foss
Should of kept his mouth shut for sure.Definitely. A huge percentage of lawbreakers are caught because they can't resist showing or telling SOMEONE what they've done.

TBone1
If this guy is guilty of this, and it seemsthat he is. What a Moron!First of all if you are going to go over your limit on anything you don't brag about it or worse yet bring your catch to the taxidemist. And with the internet what it is you sure as heck don't take freaking pictures of it or camera phone the thing.I'm surprised that he didn't call a CO to help him drag the buck out of the woods .What this guy did was take a prime specimen out of the gene pool and rob someone else the oppertunity to take a majestic animal.Selfish pig!! Everything CPF says is true, IMO. That doesn't mean he is supporting the poaching, just that he's pointing out what likely would have happened if the guy had kept his mouth shut about the previous two deer he shot. jkcmj
I punched in his rap sheet on the link provided earlier and very little showed up. Two domestics, open container, weed pocession, and one fighting. Sounds like high school for me, minus the weed and domestics. I might need to add an underage consumption or two. Sad situation, but it sounds like he at least eats what he shoots; if you want to look for a silver lining in this thing.
KG243
I guess the last sentence is s just a little disturbing to me. Sometimes the truth is disturbing! Just because this guy said that he could have gotten away with it does'nt mean he is suporting the act, just mearly making a point of how dumb the criminal is. I wonder what the restitution fee will be for that buck?!
