I go through my gear over and over. checking if there is something I can leave home to make pulling my sled easier or if Im forgetting something I really will need. I go through all my jigs and lures. new line on the reels. FLasher battery charged? DO I need a few more green cans for my Mr heater. Make sure Mr heater is going to light.

I also spend many more hours staring at my screen absorbing info. new gear, techniques and what has been working for others.

I also go through my gear over and over. New batteries, new line, and replace anything that needs it. Also I start looking online at the resort web sites and check out the water on the lake web cams.

Not much changes for me no matter the time of year or the temp. Just the required gear.

Sometimes I need a boat, sometimes I need a sled. Sometimes I need a trolling motor, sometimes I need an auger. Sometimes I need big rods, and sometimes I need small ones. Sometimes, I need cargo shorts, sometimes I need Arctic Armor.

Whatever it takes to wet a line.

I say why limit yourself to hardwater?

I eat my bear meat, i play with my toys, rods reels ect. I whish i did'nt have to buy a recent car, then i'd have alot of money to spend on new toys. but now I have a fuel efficient car for more trips. i play in my camper house an try to figure out how to make it more whatever, just make it more something, i dont know, my mind just gets really itchy an I can only itch it by doing something that involves pre-icefishing. I try to get in a rainy trip, try. Every fall I feel like a teenager trying to score, it's all I think about, then it happens, oh yea!! then all I think about is, I really need to do it again as soon as posssible. Boar

Jiggin, Let me get this straight. If it's too cold, what would stop me from icefishing? If it's too cold, I just adjust the furnace...up, the only thing that stops me from icefishing is a 'death in the family', and even then it's only a minor 'interuption'. In that case I go out before and after the funeral. Why do you ask grin Phred52

That's easy....Rivers.....they are the last to freeze up, and often are on the peak bite tell the ponds and lakes freeze over.

I often have long rods and my early ice gear in the Ol Van at the same time in late October and November.

Hit the river!
