JayinMN
Luck was on my side today and I finally ran into a Sax/Zim bog moose. Looks like she is starting to shed out her winter coat and prepare for summer.
Steve Foss
Nice work, Jason! Hard to imagine animals that big can be so elusive, eh? That second one really pops!
MN Shutterbug
Congrats, Jay. I messed up my one and only opportunity 1 1/2 years ago. I really like the last one.

finnbay
Well done, Jay! At least there's one still in the country!
gatorhunter
Actually she's not shedding. She's been rubbing her coat/hide because of tick infestations. Moose typically begin rubbing their coats in the neck area with their hind hooves or against trees to relieve the itch caused by engorging moose ticks. She's in pretty good shape for late April so she should be alright. Looks like she might be carrying a calf too!

Steve Foss
Jason, I hope you gave her a strong shove east. I haven't seen anything but moose tracks (though lots of them lately) over here since last fall. Kind of boring, taking pictures of moose tracks. JayinMN
I know what you mean, moose tracks seem to be easy to find but the moose itself is pretty elusive. Last year a cow in the same area had a set of twins and were often seen on Stone Lake Rd. Seems like everyone saw the mom and her twins except for me! She did head east but probably not that far. jonny_redhorse
Jason ...Great pics and a great find!......One sees moose tracks quite often but not the actual moose......This morning I came upon "bullwinkle" tracks for about a mile or so on the MacDavitt Road(tracks were going north)....I've noticed through the years of observing moose tracks that they seem to go great distances down old dirt roads....sometimes for miles before stepping back in the woods...guess they don't want to get their feet wet in water filled ditches! ...can't blame em! Flatline
Great pics. Spent weekend looking for deer/moose sheds. Lots of moose sign but we were unable to see any moose.
