does loud music on the ice affect fishing?

I would think that maybe it could in shallow water or where fish aren't too far under the ice but I dont know. A person might be surprised how far down the sound could travel...it would be a good experiment for someone who ice dives.

IMO no. I have recently been fishing in 18 and under fow. I can graph fish but then want to move over 5-10 feet....I start my auger and drill a few more holes and the fish are gone...but they come back rather fast. But I have my radio in the truck going so "I" can hear it (not the hole lake) and the fish dont seem to mind at all. I have also seen at tournys where guys are fishing right next to the speakers and catch fish.

I recently was passing a northern mn lake when I saw a sign for a contest that day. Was with a few buddies with time to spare so we decided to give it a shot. There was a couple of "party groups" out on the ice with the full bar, music, and everything, we figured we should stay away from them. However, as we weren't marking fish we decided it wasn't a bad idea to meet some locals and listen to some Eddie Money and share a cocktail. Well the fish must have liked classic rock, because in came a school of large bluegills, and we caught a meal of sunfish, the biggest being 10 oz, which we entered. Didn't win anything except a Glueck beer sign, but it was a heckuva day to be out on the ice!

Maybe if you had those large speakers set right on the ice. If the music is coming from the truck radio they would not hear it.

I saw a Bill Dance episode where he said that water reflects 95% or something like that of sound. So when Mike Ike freaks out yelling about his 15" keeper the fish won't hear a peep. smile

Fish can definately feel the vibrations of the fishouse door slamming or people walking or driving on the ice. Its more so true in the shallower water. This winter I watched on the camera, where someone would go outside or close the door to the fishhouse loudly and the school would spook. I know in the summer you can hear an outboard motor coming from about a half mile away under the water.

I can remember some years ago when the eyes would quit biting and my wife would put a Patsy Kline tape in the stereo. They would start biting again and she claimed it was because of the music. I guess I can't prove that she is wrong. Maybe I'll have to find a Patsy Kline CD for the boat I have now. crazy

I think the loud music would only really affect those anglers who are set up near you who don't share the same taste of music. grin

As far as fish go, I would say that it would be way more likely to affect fish in shallower waters.

Shallow water fishing = Stealth mode

A while back I heard some good old Johnny Cash playing- I couldn't find out for the life of me where the heck it was coming from.

I just went about my fishin' business and got ready for a big day on the ice. As I dropped my camera down the hole to check the lake structure I see this "Rock Bass" jammin on a guitar hero and a crappie singing "Ring of Fire".

I was so impressed, I video taped it.

Check it out...

After they were done they were filming this commercial The Boogie Crappie

I noticed a little difference one time when some a*&h)*&^ didn't like where we set up and started blaring some bad music and banging on the wall of their ice shack to drive us off. We sat there for a wile still catching some fish but they seemed to slow down when they were doing that. But we got tired of the c*&^ and started getting ready to move when they all came running out and left in their truck. After they left fishing seemed to get back to normal. The nerve of some people acting like they own the lake or a spot.

Back in the highschool days we were out one night fishing after dark for crappies. Was pretty slow so we opened up the car and cranked the tunes, not factory tunes, the ones where you hear the car long before you see it. Well it wasnt 5 minutes and we couldnt keep up with one rod each for over an hr. This was in 14 ft of water. Im sure that in some situations it could affect the bite, but this time it was in a positive was IMO.

Spudding holes is probably worse. Early ice this season, someone was spudding his holes instead of using an auger. We were probably 75-100 yards away in our ice house. THAT was loud. THUD THUD THUD THUD THUD.

KNOCK IT OFF!!!!

I listen to rush limbugh (SP) and jason lewis in my truck when I am fishing and i don't think that will mess this the fish.

Now I want to fish with you my friend! Sanity, reason, truth and integrity will always bring the fish in.

Barbara Streisand, however, will kill every fish on the lake--OH! End of Story...

never seems to effect the fishing to much. i will admit it makes a big difference when fishing shallow water

When we were kids, if the pike fishing got slow, we'd send someone out on a snowcat to circle the house a few times. Almost on cue we'd catch another pike or two. It makes em' move.

Most years on LOW, when I'm fishin' with my kids, if the bite slows I send the kids off to some big snowdrift a couple hundred feet away. The fishing immediately picks up.

I've proven this theory time and time again over 32 feet of water and nearly 3 feet of ice.

Water carries sound waves at least 10 times faster, and louder, than air. It's been proven that whales can talk to each other over several miles of open ocean.

On the other hand, I've cut holes, dropped lines, and caught walleyes in 9 feet of water while cutting more holes right on top of em'.

I'm just guessin', but I think it depends on how hungry they are? wink

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
