my buddy decided to freeze his portable in 3 to 4" into the ice. Any advice on a quick way to get it out without a handful of blisters? Think alot of rock salt would do the trick?

yeah it will be a trick when the rock salt creats a hole big enough for a truck or car to go throough the ice dont do that please

10 cases of beer and about 10 guys. When it's time to lose some beer you do it inside the house. After a few hours it should break free. Of course then you have to figure out what to do next to empty out the tub.

In this case the larger the tool of destruction the longer it will take. The hammer and chisel will cut down your work time as you can concentrate on that area, and wont have any wild hits that might hurt the house.

A few Barley pops would not be a bad thing either. What part of the state are you froze in. Hopefully north of the line.

Use a chainsaw to chip (not cut) out a channel around and as far under the house's frame as far as you can. Get a spud bar or two and start chipping. Then use long pry bars and RR ties to get some leverage and work and work and work. This is a job for as many guys as you can get. Well worth the cost of the beer for the help.

PS Don't forget the face and eye protection when you fire up the chainsaw. It is also he kind of job that makes one a lot smarter.
