heat checker
on how to know the running depths of crankbaits in a tacklebox? The more cranks I aquire, the harder it is to remember the depths they run. Thinking about marking spots in the box for various depths and hope I put them back in same spot. Any better ideas out there?
hoggs222
My Dad used to write on them with a fine sharpie. 5-7', etc.

Sandmannd
Yep, sharpie is the way to go. I've also put them in tackle boxes and then labled the lid with the depth.
heat checker
Doesn't the sharpie wear off?
TravisC
Buy the precision trolling book and tape the pages for that crank on the inside of the boxes.
Nick Kuhn
Doesn't the sharpie wear off? Eventually yes, but you'll be able to mark over it before it's completely gone...That said I've memorized it for all mine. And if I forget I just cast it and then I have a pretty good idea of where it runs again.
Esox_Magnum
Precision Trolling books the way to go, best money you can invest for trolling. Pics are real size in the book match up bait to page and you have the dive curves.
NCLaker
Been using sharpie here. Donen't have the precision tolling book yet, sounlds like I'll have to pick up one.
hoggs222
Does the precision trolling book go into mono, fireline, etc. for depths? I know that using fireline will give you a little more depth.
TNFL
yeah, sharpie!I write on the lip or on the "chin" just under the lip.
shintz
I scratch in the depths on the underside of the lip. Have used an ingraver, but a paper clip works better.
dan z
the trolling book has depth run's for use of 10 braid, a good stand buy is line diameter I dont have the book but have seen it with the running depths with fireline vs mono... if you forget what its running at run up shallow and read the locator when it hits the bottom. i have some larger huskies with the big lip and they drop way below what is shown in the box. sometimes slower speeds will make them dive and run a lil different. hope this helps
TruthWalleyes
Never even thought of this, i just guess and if i pull up weeds then i need to change! Sounds more efficient!
fishinfey8
trolling precision book is the way to go
PerchJerker
I agree with the Precision Trolling book. The amount of line you have out and the diameter of the line are the keys to determining how deep a floating crankbait will run. The Precison Trolling book gives you that info, plus a lot of other good tips etc. for running cranks.
