What to do with my Otter?

I have had an Otter Lodge for quite a while, has the round tube frame, its been a great fish house. But over the years the heater has put a few holes in the canvas most of them have been patched and some of the windows are cracked. But this weekend the zipper finally broke and now will need to be replaced. So should I find someone to sew in a new zipper, can I buy a new canvas for this old of a sled, what about the new insulated fabric?

I have to agree with everything everyone has replied to, as far as your question goes.

you certainly have alot of options.

If I was you. I would get the new Ice Camo kit that goes with our magnum sled. You would get new poles as well as new canvas. I am sure you can get the insulated fabric as well.

But like I said if it were me. I would get the new Kit that would fit your Magnum sled.

Otter does not make the old tents anymore. You'll have to go with the new square poles and new tent. I'm not sure if Canvas Craft tents fit the old poles.(Canvas Craft used to make the original Otter tents, though.)

Canvas Craft still makes the original otter skin.

How nice are the Norpac2 from Canvas Craft. Im thinkin about getting one

Simply put, after having one for this season so far, I won't be without one during my lifetime. It's more comfy staying warmer and I don't have the moisture build-up like single layer canvas shelters. Here's a little more discussion about them.

I got a norpac house, I can't believe how warn it is. I did put button snaps along the front of the tub to hold the skirt up and the wind won't come in. I am going to add velco strips to the sides to hold the sides to the poles. If you want a canves craft house you will need new poles also, they are different lenghts and the canves won't fit right. Thats what I was told on last Friday.

I would still call them first. They may already have a pattern and could whip one out still using the old pole setup.

The story goes on. I guess I have an Otter Cabin, 31x64 sled. Canvas Craft wants more for a new canvas than it costs to buy a new fish house, its an old sized sled so none of the new canvases fit, my best bet is to find someone with a decent used canvas for sale or get this one repaired, but here in sw mn its hard to find anyone to fix the old zipper. Any ideas about someone to replace a zipper would be a great help.

I dont know if they are even around anymore or if they would do it, but Sew What would be a place I would call. Im pretty sure they did alterations and tailoring so who knows. Maybe old Lena has had to sew up a zipper on Ole's fish house before and would do another for a case of beer or something.

Should be someone in your area that does canvas work, boat covers, truck tarps etc. Also try a shoe repair or upholstery shop. Anybody that can sew and has a heavy-duty machine should be able to take care of it.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
