Why can't we catch any of these guys. Lakes all around me have been hit, but they never seem to catch anyone. Very frustrating!!!!

I would expect they don't go out during peak hours. Probably middle of the night, when folks are either not in their house or are sleeping. Can probably tell if someone is there by the heater running. I would love to see scum breaking into a house and bust them.

eye, i guess i don't see how you could read that metro condones ice house break-ins from his post, but whatever. when i read the original post i thought it sounded like some thieves were gonna get waterboarded in the ice hole.

I have to admit if I would have cought the clowns who robbed my house I most likely would have become violent. Is there anything wrong with that or would I have felt guilty, absolutely not.

Wouldn't blame ya and I won't get into the ethics of if there is anything wrong with it, but you might go to jail for it.

MinnesotaMusky,

I found myself getting just as mad as I read your story. I'm a long ways away from you, but have a couple of extra rod/reel combo's that are just spares and I'd ship them to you if it helps. I know others here would probably do the same, and at least maybe get you back out there a time or two this year. Let me know.

My house never made it to the lake this year. It got broken into while still at the storage site and then they burned it to the ground. Where is anything Safe. I was in total shock. Why is all I can ask. I don't know if I could be able to forget or work the punk over. I just don't know. All I know is that I worked hard for what I have just like most people and it makes me angery that the stealing and everything else keeps happening every year on the lake or where ever. Something has to change, be it the enforcement or the punishment. I was almost to the point of giving up ice fishing so I wouldn't have to deal with this bulls!$$ any more, but that be stupit to give something that I enjoy so much.Things will be done different and pray I never catch someone doing wrong. It would be a cold day in he!!.

I do agree...my first post was poorly worded...but I did clarify in the next post, my solution was not violence. Would I feel sorry for the individuals if they found themselves in a bad life threatening situation; i.e. truck in open water, stranded on the lake...No I would not, not even a little bit.

I did not post this to threaten anyone...just to vent frustrations. Some feel "I asked for it." I will have to disagree. Will I leave my house overnight again, no, not unless I am sure it will occupied. Will I help my friends again, yes.

To all the offers of equipment...Thank You...I am fortunate to be in position financially to replace the equipment. So if you have extra equipment...there are folks who need it more than myself and my family. Maybe find a conservation organization or maybe even a kid in your community who you know might appreciate the gear. Have them shovel your drive, do some type of work ...and let them earn the equipment.

Good news is this...there is a "solid lead" on the thefts...so maybe a few items will be recovered.

Thanks for listening...

For this I say you are a great man. I have seen posts and others offering to send them stuff and some on here say it was a scam to get free things. I would give you a great level of respect for telling this story and saying you don't need anything and that you (this one is the big one) will help out your friend again in the future. That's simply awesome. I wish you the best and hope you get your things back.

Good luck MM...

I've spent time following this post since the day you posted it...and understand how you felt...a big part of this forum is for 'venting'...we as fisherman, outdoorsman often have similar views, a camaraderie, if you will. Glad you took the time to share it with us.

Your words in your last post were very well written. I commend you and your actions. Your initial intent was more than honorable. I look forward to a post from you letting us know that said individuals have been caught.

I'd share my fish house with you, anytime...

Eckie

MM, I really like your idea of getting back at these dirtbags when you catch them, but personally I'd have no problem with... "forcebly detaining" them until the police arrived if that happened at my house. People like that aren't going to stop because somebody tells them too, and I have no problem with getting a little vengance.

Then again, maybe that's just the Italian in me, lol.

    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
    • Sketti...  not out of a jar either!
    • Lol yeah I watched that
