Yesterday morning 3/31/12

40 air, mid 50s water, 1 fow on the very windy side.

Almost 7lbs after only 8 casts into the season. 3/8 white, big blade spinner. Broken hand and all. Will be hard to top this the rest of the year.

Went out chasing crappies Saturday morning. After two beetle spins got straightened we decided to see just what exactly we were dealing with. We had our suspicions....

Within 5 minutes those suspicions were confirmed....

8 minutes into the day. Can't feel my fingers at this point.

First double within 30 minutes. Almost a triple.

And then my buddy decided he wanted to change it up with the ice rod.

I really do try to avoid chasing bass before the season starts. Not only for legal and ethical reasons, but to avoid sleep deprivation and financial ruin as well. It seems the fishing just gets better when you're consciously trying to avoid it. Now I can't hold off from getting some of those Elite Tech Smallmouth rods by Fenwick.

The pic doesn't do this girl justice...and I've got no idea how I managed to land her on my crappie rig. I had a few on that might've been this size, but 4 lb test in stumps and logs doesn't give a guy much room for error.

Pool 4 fish from a couple weekends ago.

Very nice!! I really need to get down and learn pool 4. I've probably been on pool 2 10x or more this year already. Might have to try something different.

How have you done on Pool 2 this year? I've been out there 3 times and have struggled. Tried main river smallies and backwater largies with limited success and actually found more largies on the main river then in the backwaters....weird.

I have done pretty well with smallies this year so far. Most are in slack water throwing a KVD 1.5 or Strike king series 3. I have had quite a few that have been around 18in. Largemouth have been tough but have caught some in the backwaters down south. I feel the up and down temperatures really throws them off.

weird it has been the opposite for me. lots of largies with a few smallies, but i have only spent a little time on the main river
