I said the same thing. My FL 8 has been with me since 1989 and still works great. That said, its now collecting dust cause I bought an FL 20 last season.Zoom is unbelievable and I cant live without it now.Its also very nice to fish one unit in a 2 man shack, both guys can view screen easily.I still wont give up my FL 8 though, pulled to many fish with that old gal and if someone doesnt have a flasher itll be ready for battle.

hamms, I also held on to my 8 for many years but got an 18 this year. If you fish bottom feeders like I do most of the time, the zoom really helps show when the fish is coming in a lot cleaner then the 8. I was getting pretty good at watching the bottom line on the 8 start to jump just a bit when an eye would be coming in, but with the 18 that line is huge in comparison and it really makes it a lot easyer to see the fish. If you fish for crappies or other higher column fish most of the time, the 8 is fine.

Well you may wish to consider the new Vexilar Cool Blue LED Conversion upgrage for your older FL-8 SLT unit.

You will see a dramatic increase in clarity and separation and as long as your ducer is 100% solid, far better definition. Plus you will have the newest "Cool Blue" look for $59. Cleaned, re-tuned, new ultra bright LED's for $60.....and your old reliable FL-8 SE unit is Sweeter then ever.

I did it on my new FL-20's..Man-Oh-Man....I LOVE IT!!!

I still have my first Fl-8 "Sitex", it is three color, but was before they had the anti interference thing. Still works fine, never needed anything else fancier, have had a couple fuses put in it. The tech told me the last time, don't run these things to the point that your colors on the display start turning pale, that means your battery is near-toast. Apparently the low power is what really hacks these things off, and can actually cause the internal board mounted to fuse to pop.

I absolutely love my FL-8 and can't see any reason to upgrade. I even bought another FL-8 for my wife a couple Christmas's ago, and she loves hers too. If she doesn't want to go fishing, I have one for each hole. If one of my buddies want to come with, they can use hers (they all have Marcums, and for whatever reason, my FL-8 won't come in clear within 25 yards of a Marcum). I've fished with my buddy's LX-5 (the higher-end Marcum), and I don't know that I watched the side that shows the entire column the entire time.

Old and stubborn, die-hard, whatever, I plan on fishing with my FL-8 until it completely craps out, then I'll try to find another FL-8.

I fished with an FL8 for probably 5 years before I finally sold it and bought an LX5. Best move I ever made. The 8 did just fine in MOST circumstances, but if I fished anywhere near a Marcum, I could just as well shut mine off, because there was no way I could cancel out the interferance. Bad thing is, all of my fishing buddies used a Marcum, I was the only lone duck with the Vex. So last year towards the end of the ice season, I found the LX5 on sale, bought the last one on the shelf and sold the FL8. The target definition, adjustable zoom feature, and the fact that we can sit in a shack with 4 Marcums running and not have interferance issues, was well worth the money in my opinion.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
