Did a little exploring over the weekend on some small bodies of water we didn't know much about and had never fished. Found some smaller crappies and gills on these lakes. Got em on plastics and found them suspended half way down the water column. One of the lakes being shallow and the other fairly deep. Both held good numbers of fish and will be some future spots to go to! Good to check different ponds, you just never know what you will be rewarded with. Solo mission early this morning before the cold front moves in this weekend. Fished from sun up - 930. Iced 15-20 slabs on a lake I've got to know pretty well over the years. All fish caught on plastics and tungsten jigs. Hard to take descent pictures alone but here's a few from today

Brought my boy out yesterday in the nice weather we had. Got on a couple schools of crappies and gills. Here's a nice 13" he landed himself. Getting to be quite the fisherman!

Haven't fished crappies in a while, but the last time we did, the girlfriend showed me up!!!!!!!

Went to a sure spot the other day and found some big gills on the chew.   Biggest gill was right at 10".    Found them holding in a patch of green cabbage in about 9' of water.

Went out Saturday morning and braved the cold.   The fish didn't seem to mind either.   Found them on a 8' shallow flat with plenty of green cabbage.   Small Tungsten jig with Maki plastics were the key.

The boys got out last night after work for the evening bite. Fished a lake that's had its ups and downs this year but has always held good numbers of crappies. Minnow and a jig isnt our cup of tea on a normal basis but that seemed to be key last night. They iced a decent pile of fish and put a 15.5 inch slab topside. Have a look! 

Loving these tungsten fly jigs from vmc! The fish seem to also!
