lawdog
OK, I'm glad we won the game and the division and really glad we won't be sitting home on the recliners like the Bears and the Pack!!!!!NOW, having said that, why can't we manage the clock in the two minute drill? We haven't done it since Bud Grant was the coach! That game ending field goal didn't need to be from 51 yards if we had used the clock and the timeouts properly we could have run at least 2 maybe 3-4 more plays in the time we had. That's on the QB and the coaches. Just not very good game awareness. I don't get it.
DonBo
Did you see Longwell shaking his head wondering the same thing?
Hammer Handle
Anything for Longwell inside the 55 yard line and indoors is a "chip shot" for him.
Quetico
YES YES YES YES. That was just plain stupid the way they managed the clock in the last minute of the game yesterday. They should have easily gotten 2 or 3 more good plays off in the last minute.Longwell has the capability to use make the long kicks but we should waste the last minute of the game forcing him to make them. Chili showed a true error in judgment. Some have been wanting him gone this entire season, I haven't been one of them. The last minute of yesterday's game makes me question his ability as a coach. Dave S
The problem was that Chilli or the Offensive Coord. didn't have a call for Jackson so they ran the 10 seconds off the clock. I was at the game yesterday and it was loud that final few seconds. If there's one thing that will prevent a Vikings win on Sunday, it's Childress. Hammer Handle
Or maybe T-Jack told the coaches he was nervous and didn't know what to do. In that case, the coach did the right thing. We are not on the sideline, so we don't know what happened.I do know that we won though.
CodyDawg
we may not know exactly what happened, but that does not matter. that is the mark of poor coaching pure and simple. and this was not an isolated event, it happens a lot with him. when was the last time you felt they did a fantastic job with clock management? yeah, i couldnt come up with one either. Hammer Handle
He is not a fantastic coach, but he is a good coach. With all of the coaches that were fired this year and the lack of good coaches available...I will take the good coach. Sandmannd
Horrible when it comes down to the final ticks. It's been that way for a long time though. I don't get it at all.
fishin58
Bill B was not built in a day! Pretty sure he was run out of town. High horse silver, you guys are some awesome Monday qb's. Glad we won and like I said we will learn from this.
Hammer Handle
The Giants had the same issue with their coach all year last year. The story today is that Chilly did not want to run another play as Longwell was good at that range. Another loss of yards, and he would be out of his high % range. Longwell said that if it was 45 yars, 40, or 51...they were all the same to him.I guess it worked, but I think I would have tried one more play. But, with our fumble history and young QB...maybe not....
FISHINGURU
it surely doesn't help tjack out any...like we need him all confused and not knowing what plays to run with the clock ticking down.with proper clock management we could of had another handful of plays but it doesn't matter now...maybe tjack or AP would of made a mistake in the last 20 seconds and we lose...it was definatly poor coaching but maybe it was for the better we'll never know. zepman
Tonight on the radio it said that the final pass play to Wade was simply to run time off the clock so that the field goal was the last play of the game. Never intended for the pass to be completed as TJack just threw it over his head. The problem I have was the 60 seconds leading up to this point...wow! Thank God for Longwell. Hammer Handle
People are writing they want Denny Green back.I guess he should of just taken a knee then....Denny sucks.
FISHINGURU
it doesn't matter what excuses the team makes up for why they have crappy clock management.thats great you ran another play just to run time off the clock ...that is simply an amazing strategy lol.how bout next time you just run the clock down to 3-4 seconds then call the time out? or get up to the line 20 seconds sooner and have 2 running dive plays up the gut with klieny at full back or something then call the time out or spike the ball?if your scared we will lose yards then call the time out with a couple seconds left...if not be ready to have some smash plays called to gain additional yards to set up the game winner. pinkfloyd4ever
I can't totally complain, it didn't look like we knew what we were doing, but Longwell would've made that one from 60 the way it looked.
Hammer Handle
Yea, we won...or the story would be different for me.And, I missed it. I only watched the first half.Denny's knee play would have been forgotten too, if we would have won the game. With all the coaches being fired this year...who is going to be available for the Vikes? Chilly got us this far. He is better than Denny. He is better than Tice. For now, that will have to do.
lawdog
I'm surely not advocating firing Childress because of this, that's not why I started the thread. I just was remarking that generally speaking our team hasn't handled this well for years. Watch Peyton Manning, Brett Favre or Tom Brady run a two minute drill (John Elway was actually the best ever at this I think) and you will see the coaches don't even need to do much, but watch those same sidelines and they are not all running around scrambling to find their buttox with both hands like our coaches were in the last minute Sunday, they are calm and cool and have a plan they are following. We don't have a QB ready to run it or coaches having thought through how to run it in my opinion.
FISHINGURU
.With all the coaches being fired this year...who is going to be available for the Vikes? Chilly got us this far. there really won't be much available...cowher says he doesn't want to coach next year...most of the teams that didn't make playoffs are already making moves trying to get whats available.i wouldn't mind playing some marty ball if childress goes...i'd almost rather keep chilly then go after some unproven coordinator as a new head coach...and i'm far from a chilly fan.its natural to always think there is greener pastures on the other side but its not always the case.
