2008/09 Ice fishing Reports

Recommended Posts

Fished DaRago today, definitely a real tough day. Walking was easy, fishing wasn't. Lots of lookers with very few takers. Didn't matter what you sent down or how you jigged it, the fish were in a very, very negative mood. Fished roughly from 8:00 to 12:30 off the boat launch in about 35' to 36'. Somehow managed to snag ten of the critters with the two nicest fish sucumbing to a DC special (shad dart type jig custom painted by Jay). Thanks again for the lures.

For those that may be interested the lot at Bakers Beach is plowed and the gate open.

That lake has been pounded to death this year from what I have been hearing. I went out twice this year with Timmy and the Tankster...once with Billy and once with Terrible Towel DC!

I pulled some Dandys from there...WOW, some real beauties! Tank was born to pull Jumbo Perch from those waters...way to go Tank. DC and Timmy didn't do so bad either.

Tank...I would really like to do some more fishing with you,Jay and Billy this year. You say when and where and I am there!!

AW absolutely agree with you. That lake has been pounded to death this year and the snow banks on Marble Rd. have also taken quite a pounding from what I have heard - right Timmy grin . I personally think a lot of the problem is with certain posters on other forums feeling compelled to brag to the world about how great they are. Mind as well put the freakin Goodyear blimp over the lake and say fish here. Don't need to tell you or others on this forum, but the really good fishermen don't need to brag about how good they are. Anyways, what the heck are you gonna do, I guess its human nature.

Yeah, Tank was born to pull Jumbo Perch from those waters; others were just born to pull. gringringrin Not gonna mention any names. Looking forward to hookin up with Tank and you guys on the Big C this year. Was hoping to get back out on Fri. but someone I live with has other ideas. Probably won't be until some time next week - bummer.

Nice fish! Went out fri. Did too much after that flu, still a bit weak. Forgetting the tens unit and to take my meds didn't help. Hurt like the devil! Got a couple big gills and a ton of small. Good experience with the new LX5 and the St. Croix. Can't miss a fish with that combo!! Had fun but drilled too many hoels and paid for it all day yesterday. Plans with my son today, he's 20 tomorrow so I'm in today. Mon and Tue evening I'm free and after that. Anyone? DC, share that email and info please. Maybe we can put something together this week. The place in WI is sending out ice jig info but said it may be a bit since they're really busy. Can't wait to hit the ice again!!

THunderTodd - Nice fish there bud. Yep, I can definatly tell that Timmy posted the pictures crazy ie- same picture 3 times!

We ended up haveing a real nice day yesterday. We were planning on Oneida, either SS Launch or Cleveland. I talked to Lee about 1030pm and he had a few hot reports. So we decided a hot report sounded better than O. Plus fishing and chattin with Lee is always a good time.

Well the first spot off Ontairo wasnt panning out. Im sure the fish were there but moving around off the beaten path was not fun. About noon Tank talked to a friend who was fishing plan A while we were on plan B and doing real well. So we packed up and headed south.

The rest of the day was almost non stop fish. Mostly smallish/med gills and sunnies, some perch, and the occasional big crappie ne gill. We were picky but Tank and I ened up with 30 sunnies plus a dozen crappies. Lee's bucket had some weight also.

Heres a few picts...

This thick and wide 13.5 made my trip. Lee had one bust him off in the hole that was maybe bigger...

Lee had a good time testing out my Thorne Quiverstick and Finesse panfish. I think I saw a tear in his eye when packing up and he handed it back.

Here he had a large fish hooked, probably a bass. Played it out like a champ then the hook pulled near the hole...

Lee "the fish catchin machine"

We fished till dark hopeing the crappies would pick up but things actually got quiet towards dark. We hit the road and all stopped for some grub at Mc Greasy.

Lee - Super nice fishing with you, Look forward to next time...

A final shot...

Awesome fish boys...I need to get out on the ice with Lee! It has been way too long...I think the last time I fished with you Lee, was last year, last ice on EBanks. I stopped by the Bait Store and they had no bait. You were nice enough to let me use some extra bait you had. Why haven't you made it to Madison Co. this year? I guess the fishing is better else where. Shoot me an email next time you make it out Lee!

Jay...I am in for the night...call me!

I had another productive fishing day on the Big "O" and caught absolutely NOTHING...guess who I was with whistle

........ drumroll please.................

The Top 5 places I would not fish if my name was Timmy or Todd........

5. Jewel

4. Edgewater

3. Big Bay

2. Chapman Park

1. Delta

The numbers are all interchangeable but the names stay the same... Oooops I forgot to add 200 yards off the SS launch to the list...

My work is done here, time to go smack the cat and kick the dog whistle

Jay it was great fishing with you and Tank and enjoyed it a bunch and just shooting the [PoorWordUsage] at McDonald's was cool and being able to sit back and not worry about a fish on the flasher... LOL (Jay was trying to take a picture but I kept looking down at the flasher because I had fish coming up smile )

We decided to hit someplace else because the reports on the Big O have been bad and the derby was this weekend.

Frank, the auger was great and thanks a BUNCH for letting me use it. Now we have to get out and get in fishing groove so when it comes time to the tournament we are on auto pilot.

Timmy, Jay and I were talking and we think it's better to go find the fish (unless you get on ice reports of slamming them) because by the time we ever hear of good bites it always the "Day Late" thing when you get there.

Todd, That bay needs to be explored this next weekend and lets try to get the guys together and put some holes in it. My buddy fished the derby and said nobody even stopped in that bay or anything, he couldn't convince our friend to go check it out. Some people would rather sit and hope for the best instead of going and finding the best. People ask me how come I catch or find so many fish and all I say is "Don't sit and stare at the water in your hole, if you ain't catching then go find". I would rather drill 100 holes and catch nothing then sit in one hole and not trying to up my odds.
