only ice
Glad to see the move. We still have a bit of a problem at QB, and we need a good big Tight End!!
Eric Wettschreck
From Fox Sports:Pro Bowl defensive end Jared Allen has a new home. The former Chiefs player has agreed to terms with the Vikings, Allen told FOXSports.com exclusively, on a contract that makes him the highest paid defensive player in NFL history. The deal is for six years and just under $74 million, including a stunning $31,000,069 guaranteed — 69 is his jersey number. The Vikings will give up their 2008 first-round draft pick as well as two third-rounders, and the teams will swap sixth-round picks. Acquiring Allen is a huge move for the Vikings and immediately gives them the best defensive line in the NFL. Allen joins fellow Pro Bowlers Kevin and Pat Williams as well as the very underrated Ray Edwards. The move means the Chiefs will have two first-round picks and a slew of additional selections over the course of the draft, a solid sign for a team in rebuilding mode. Now that Allen is gone, look for the Chiefs to aim for Ohio State defensive end Vernon Gholston, provided he's still on the board when the Chiefs select at No. 5. The Vikings did an exhaustive check on Allen, who missed two games last year due to suspension for a pair of DUI charges. Everyone from owner Zigi Wilf to head coach Brad Childress and the rest of the front office checked and re-checked to make sure Allen would be a model citizen, and all accounts came back positive. On Thursday, Childress took a couple of coaches, grabbed Wilf's plane and flew to California to pick up Allen to bring him in for a two-day visit. While the Bucs were also involved, Minnesota was always Allen's top choice because it refused to harp on his past in talks and negotiations.***************************************************Hopefully he can stay off the sauce. While we lost some draft picks, I'm not a huge fan of the draft. This move gives the Vikings one of the best D-lines in the leauge. Which, they seriously need since their secondary is, for the most part, non-existant.
The Donk
Putting serious pressure on the opposing QB makes your secondary look a lot better...I am very in favor of this- losing Udeze, while he didn't provide much in sacks was not good. Now, an upgrade.SKOL Vikes!!!!

CodyDawg
Nice move. I like it. But how can we seriously think Super Bowl with TJack? I hope they have something else up their sleeve, cuz i dont see it. What does he have, 1 career 200 yard game? 1?
Wookiee
This was a good move.
Scott K
You T-Jack haters just need to sit back and give him a chance. He is young, he has been playing injured, he had no-one to throw to. How many QB's out there with 16 (now) games under their belt isnt going to make mistakes when they have nobody to throw to? If we dont use him, then who do we use? He has improved alot through out the season. Let him play! I know some of his mistakes were bad, but he can learn from them, cant he? Isnt that what experience does? Sandmannd
You have to give T-Jack some time. Like wandering said, it's been 16 games. Hopefully he improves this year and the line holds and he has guys to throw the ball too. The defense should be pretty golden this year though. so haaad
Time will tell if this is a decent move or not. The three draft picks seems a little high priced to me, especially for a guy who already has two strikes. Everytime that I see that many draft picks in a trade I think of the Herschel Walker trade, aka building of the Dallas dynasty. I think the next big question the Vikes need to address is who's going to play left tackle this year. Marcus Johnson? Artis Hicks?
solbes
Pretty smart move considering all of those awful 1st and 2nd round DE draft picks. Our run stopping D should be just as effective this year. Now the pass D should be greatly improved. Getting to just middle of the pack pass defense should add 2 or 3 wins.I used to be a big T-Jack supporter. He hasn't had that many games, but this is his year to step up or step down. Sidney Rice seemed to be a solid rookie guy. Maybe those two can hook up more often this year. Scott K
Could you imagine what our d-line would be like if we got Jason Taylor from Miami? Trade them our #2, and maybe a 4th next year. WOW, it gives me the shivers to even think about it! Imagine the fear the opposing QB's would have! I know it would never happen, we have bigger needs now, such as a fill in for Mccinney, and TE, and I am sure we dont have the money to sign him either, but one can only imagine! We went this far with him, and unless you are going to go all out and get a veteran QB to replace him, it doesnt make sense to get another young QB in there. Next year we can focus on a replacement good QB if he doesnt cut it this year. The nice thing about all this is the open ATM account from Ziggy, he isnt afraid to spend some money! I smell SB within the next 3 years.
Al.Wichman
t-Jack is young and had no receivers and he also did not have a veteran back-up to help him and guide him along I think with gus there to press him and teach him it will help. along with AP, Berrian,Chester Taylor and any tight end with a scratch of talent. Wandering you seem well informed what about Shockey or is that impossible?
Scott K
I think Shockey would be an improvement at TE, but he will want to much money, and his Ego needs stroking to much to play here in MN. I think Chillie like Shoncoe (or whatever his name is), I think we draft a TE with our #4 pick, and a OT with our #2.
Coach1310
I'm bummed because I like the draft and now we don't have a 1st round pick, but at least we know what we are getting. Hopefully they add some depth on O-line and TJax plays like they think he is capable.
Schloogs
Quote: I see that many draft picks in a trade I think of the Herschel Walker trade, aka building of the Dallas dynasty. The Herschel trade was something like 5 players and six picks or vice versa. With Allen we would have used one of those picks to get a D End anyways, so the vikes are really only giving up 2 picks. Scott K
Free agent Daunte Culpepper is visiting with the Packers on Wednesday. He's being looked at as a backup for Aaron Rodgers. Culpepper might not be guaranteed the No. 2 job, as Green Bay seems likely to draft a signal callerLOL this would be great!

CodyDawg
Well, all you TJack supporters, tell me what you have seen from him to think he will be good? Is it his 1-200 yard game or his 9 TDs in his last 7 games, a whole 1.29 TDs per game. Mebbe it was how when teams absolutely dared him to pass by taking away AP, he did absolutely nothing. Absolutely stinkin' nothing. It wasnt like he threw for 350 yards and 2 tds but threw 4 picks. He threw for 85 yards and 4 picks is more like it. I dont hate him, I just havent seen one shred of evidence that he has what it takes to be even a journeyman NFL QB, let alone a quality starter. Man, Spergon Wynn put up better numbers, why not give him some more time? And 16 games over 2 years is enough that we should start to see something. I hope I am wrong, but I think we may be looking at Gus by game 5.
Scott K
After over analizing the Allen trade more and more, I like it. We had #17, we had a need for a DE at this pick, but what would have been available wouldnt be a good starter. If we wanted to move up to get Harvey we would have most certain would have givin atleast a 3rd, if not a second to get into the top 12 spots. So is it worth it to have a proven great DE and give up an aditional 3rd, or to have that third and gamble with Harvey? Basicly it would be us trading Harvey, and a 3rd round pick for Allen. I say good deal! We didnt give up our future, we still have all of our future drafts. Im looking forward to this season now!
walleyes12
I agree, it was a great deal for the vikes!! It promising to see an owner spend alittle money, we are not use to that in MN
PikeTipper
As someone on KFAN pointed out. The absolute best case senario for the #17 pick would be a DE that you hoped some day would be the next Jarred Allen. Might as well just go out and get Jarred Allen.
