Lure Addiction Confession

Back in the day, when the 100 count bags down at Berkley were more availabe, I used to make many trips down there. The result is a giant plastic container of "reserve" 100 count bags of powerbait that I never tap into anymore. It weighs in at 136.4lbs!!!

I use to find a bait I liked , then buy every color they had thinking I would use them all. But every time I would only use the same three colors....Black, pumpkinseed, and some sort of watermelon.

My mechanical room is pretty good size, and i bet you'd swear you're walking into a sporting goods store if you saw it! I've got enough stuff to last a lifetime for sure and every year I just keep adding to it. Big problem is like bassin said, once I get out and start actually fishing I only use the things that have been producers in the past and all my plans for expirmenting pretty much goes out the window. blush.gif

Labels no, but if I do think of it at the time I tear off the hang tag part of the crankbait package that says DT4, or DT6, or whatever and put in that compartment. Helps with knowing which are floaters, suspending, countdown, etc (think Husky J's and all the variations). With jigs it helps tell what the weight is, sometimes hard to tell a 1/4 from a 3/8 or 3/16 in hand when that extra little/less weight may help.

Also helps with night-time walleye fishing in the Fall, lots easier than trying to read the imprint on the clear plastic lip of a crank at night with cold hands.

BPA- I have at times, taken a sharpie marker and wrote on a bill of a crank exactly how deep the lure ran on a long cast with 10 lb test line. But beyond that, I know which color each of my boxes are and I know where they are in my boat, I have cranks by diving depth and color. Plastics by style.

My Plano's are labelled such that one is labeled "Cranks and Divers",another "Jerkbaits",another "Poppers and Topwater" and "Tackle".

I am thinking of arranging them according to sky/water conditions but I can't push myself hard enough to organize yet.

I also have a "daytripper" box with a combo of hardbaits and worms/senkos.

I dread the day when I've gotten down to organizing my scents and attractants!!!

I label my 3700's with punch style label maker:

shallow crankbaits

medium crankbaits

medium crankbaits

deep crankbaits

then if I have a bunch of one lure I give them there own box and label it with what lure is in it. Like Magwarts and Down Deep Rattln' Fat Raps

I know this is bad, but for my walleye cranks, I have one specific lure style (various colors) per Plano box.

Smithwick Super Rogues, Smithwick Pro Rogues, Rapala Husky jerk-baits (one of 14s and one for 12s), Rapala Original Floaters (one for F13s & one for F11s), Rapala X-Rap box (haven't got enough to split them off into sizes yet!), another Plano box for Storm Thundersticks, 'nother for Rapala Shad Raps, and one for Shallow Shad Raps, couple boxes for different size Minnow Raps. Haven't got into pulling Reef Runners yet or that will be a few more boxes.

You can seriously make it as sick as you want to. But in my opinion, keeping them organized and protected and in a way that keeps you efficient on the water is the most important aspect!

What a topic, I just finished putting all my cranks in boxes according to diving depths, well just before that I ran and bought 8 more boxes as I was a little unorganized and figured I would need the extra space, ya I used all but three of them, plus the five from before, so good news is I know have three extra boxes that I can fill up, but walking into Gander tonight I was thinking I must be addicted to these things, I wonder if anyone else has this issue, oh I just laugh when I log on here and right at the top is this post. Well I counted my cranks to be at 117. The worst part is everytime I walk into a store I see about another hundred or two that I don't even have and think they would work. Guess I'll just keep on buying lol. Know I got to get the jigs done,

Are you guys serious? I just throw them in an open slot that fits. Though I do try to segregate shallow cranks and deep cranks. And, I have a bit of an informal organization system for plastics. But, I honestly don't invest time in it. You guys really are addicted!
