Red fishing line

I have fished the 2# cajun ice line next to 2# and 4# Berkley xl and haven't noticed much of a difference between the 2 rods side by side. Slight edge to the 2# vs.4# but a pretty even mix between the two 2# lines side by side. The cajun line does seem to coil more and twist up then the berkley xl IMO.

Well they say that the color red is filtered out in the water before any other color. (making the line virtually invisible) Whether they're claims are true or not I don't know, but as long as they're not charging me anymore for line than I'd normally spend, then what the heck. Surly can't hurt.

I've been using Cajun Ice line #2 this year. Although I've caught a lot of fish I can't say one way or the other if its helped. I do know it seems like I keep getting a heck of a wrapped up mess on the end of the pole that I recall from previous years.

I'm not a fan of cajun line. Regardless of whether or not it's visible underwater ....... I just don't think it's very good line. It stretches and its diameter and strength is very inconsistent. There's a reason it's so cheap.

I just put 2# on my panfish rod and noticed that it wants to wrap around the tip of the rod. To prevent this I just peeled about 50 yards off and then gave it a good strech 3 feet at a time as I reeled it back up. Don't have the problem anymore.

The color red is filtered out true but line shows as black it does not become invisible. Common misunderstanding. Think about it. An all red lure does not become invisible in very deep water it appears to the human eye to be black. Same with fishing line or red hooks.

Ironically, I just spooled two new spring bobber rods with Cajun red ice yesterday. I had some left over in my office here and since reading this post, started to play with it and examine it. It does stretch to beet all get out. I do not see diameter issue, other than from the area I stretched and the fresh stuff off the spool. After stretching the line, it does loose the memory coil ness nicely.

I might go out to night and give it a try, but if it does not perform well it will be peeled right back off. Like said above, it’s pretty cheap now.

Good luck.

Go Packers,

I would think your drag is set incorrectly, you may want to try a different knot or the fish you are catching are just too big grin.gif.

When this Cajun stuff is new, it seems very strong (at least the 3#), but it seemed to stretch verses breaking (more so than I have seen with other line). I just wonder if after some use, will the line stretch and after a little more time and use, will the stretched line become brittle.

We will see.

Maybe I was too quick to judge it, but I had it on for one weekend and had two break offs that didn't have anything to do with the drag and the knot seemed strong when I tested it, but I like your idea of blaming it on the fish being too big. It just didn't seem to have the strength to it. I personally don't have a preference with line, I just had a bad experience with the Cajun.

I started using fireline Crystal micro ice fishing line this year and it is some awesome stuff. I dont know how much I buy into the fish seeing the line. I had this spooled on one pole at Lake of th e Woods and 8 lb trilene cold weather with a 18 inch flurocarbon leader both using the same rattlin varmit lure and neither did better or worse then the other. The one thing that sold me on the fireline crystal is my hook sets were better then the trilene cold weather mono. When fishing 30 ft down there is way too much stretch in the mono versus the Crystal. I hate using polymer knots but it is the only thing that will work with these new hybrid fishing lines. Take your cajun and tie it to a big trebel hook and about two feet from the hook yank it real hard till it breaks. See if the break is at the knot or the knot is still tied to the hook. I tried this with polymer, uni knot and trilene knot the the only one that did not break at the knot was the polymer knot.

All of my walleye rods are spooled with 6# crystal, then uni to uni 4# vanish. It was last year on Mille Lacs that sold the Vanish to me, I had only Crystal to the jig and my buddy had Vanish, could clearly see my Crystal on the cam and the Vanish was invisible, he got the bites, not me. Clear water I believe that a person should have flouro leaders. Lake of the Woods is very bog stained water so I don't think the line is as important. I use fireline up there for strength and sensitivity and don't worry about the line being visible under water and the only way I tie it to my lure is with a palomar knot. Other knots want to pull apart. I also use a palomar knot with mono and flouro as it is claimed to be the strongest knot.

Back to the topic, since the walleye season closed I have had good luck with Cajun Red in clear water for panfish.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
