Flathead Record Shattered!

Recommended Posts

That’s what I’m hoping to see in 2008.

Did I get your attention?

Good….. it’s time to start thinking about coming out of hibernation. You’ve been away long enough.

Let’s get it pumped up around here. We’ll be catching kitties at Mill Ruins before you know it!

How about a roll call from all the cat guys?

I'm ready. cool.gif I'll be putting in a lot of work on the MN and the sippi again this year..

As for a new record Flathead, it is bound to happen eventually. My guess is it will come from the Mississippi this time.

It will be interesting to see how the fishing is at Ruins after that 1000+ fuel spill into the river right in that area..... YUK>

as far as the Cat guys..... MMMM they all seem to be viewing the "other" site.

New Go light for the boat along with a stereo also for some tunes to go along with the clickers. I have been getting my rods ready and have one Abu reel back to them to fix the clicker. new rod holders already on the boat.

I'm ready baby, bring on the warmer temps.

I tell you what, show a true interest come open water, there's a good chance someone near will offer up an open seat. There were guys here and there and everywhere fishing with new folks last year. I met a lot of new people.

Dtro,

You blew my mind with this post. I was waiting for a 80 plus high mark. Sheuwwww!

I will have as much dedy as last year and then some.

I know Dtro and harvey are some great guys, that will take out a new guy at the drop of the hat. Also look out for an opening with Hanson or LFC. These are also great guys to hitch a ride with. I hope to see most if not all of you at the Cool Cats and on the river this year.

Its funny, my buddies who do not have computers know of all of you guys. That’s cool in my book.

It never hurts to go out with different guys whether you're new or not so knew. We can always learn something from someone else.

I'll keep an eye out for some of them experienced guys in my area. Maybe have them show me a thing or two to learn the area better.

I'll be hitting open water as soon as there's a spot big enough to cast to. It's interesting early in the season, when you have to worry about cutting your line on the edge of the ice.

I hope the fuel spill didn't do too much damage, but we'll see.

the Cat guys are some of the most friendly around, in my opinion.

they've all been really helpful with any questions I've had over time

Carefull, once you go Cat, you never go back...

The fuel spill wont affect Mill Ruins, the culvert is directly below the lower lock.. good for Mill ruins, but very bad for that spot which was a very good spot, and likely other areas near by down stream.

I can gaurantee that culvert was full of crappies(amongst other species) when the fuel started pumping in.

Good post, Darren. You definitely got my attention. I've been doing some research on chasing daytime flatheads. It is a common approach on the Rock River by some of the better known cat guides. I got the video "Rock River Flatheads" out of the catfish Connection Catalog and it has me fired up to chase flatheads. I'm going to do a lot more daytime hunting this year - another reason to spend more time on the water.

I’ve seen a few of those videos too. In fact they are (or were) on YouTube. They use a “bait-walking” technique, I think they might even refer to it as drop-shotting, but not really drop shotting the way I understand it.

The trick is finding that underwater cover that holds those daytime fish and being able to get that bait in the right place.

The record could certainly come down...not shattered but just a few pounds would make me happy. Can you imagine the size of the guys head that got it grin.gif

Tyler you gonna try some trout poetry down on the streams before you try the catfish porno on the river?
