Ice fishing 2007-2008

Recommended Posts

WOW! Y'all have been typing away! I'm not much for getting on the computer over the weekends. Guess I'll have to change that.

Went out to Oneida and did ok on the walleye and perch (yellow and silver). There's an eagle on the east shore, fed the silvers to him. Quite a site. I have to get myself a camera like DC's.

The new mold is on its way, let me how many you would like. I have an endless supply of lead, I just have to buy the hooks.

DC, give me specifics on how you like them and I'll do my best to load you up.

I'll also do some looking around and see if I can come up with any other ice molds and smaller jigs for you to get creative with!

Otis - as good of hook as any is the mustad 32756 bronze or the 32755 gold. The gold are more expensive and I dont think it matters. The bronze run a tad less than 5 bucks a hundred, cheaper if you order 1000. Red hook are nice but the red comes off easy.

1/32 will need a size 8 or 10, leaning towards the 10 for icefishing, 1/64 gets a 12...

Mike just called on the north shore on Oneida, him and his buddy got a nice limit of eyes each! 15" to 19". They started at 0730 and finished at 0830, they have since moved out looking for perch caught a couple of singles and no groups located yet. His best walleye came on a #4 Chubby yellow belly perch, crushed it... Ice is 6" to 10" thick and the snow cover drifts are no more than 2-3" not bad by hand on the north side for pulling..

Otis - That ultra-minnow mold looks sweet. I'd be interested in some down the road. I'll double check on hook size but 4,2,1 for the 1/8, 1/4, 3/8th seems about right. Alot of people put way too big a hook on walleye jigs, in my opinion. Leave the 2/0 for the bass guys. whistle.gif

OK guys I will see you for the crappie run, Fishingking said it's snowing pretty good down on C and won't be able to make it so... Should be Chris, Ray, Frank and I as it stands right now. I should be there around 4ish. Still snowing lightly here, go slow and be careful and will see you at the lake...

You got it DC! I'll throw in a couple with the darts so you can make Tim and Todd drool. I’m hoping to get you a grab bag of a couple different jig styles.

We just got back from a day at the Oneida City Hospital. Ellie tripped in gym class and broke her arm. She’s a trooper, but I think she’s done ice fishing for the season.

Good luck on the King this weekend guys. Nick and I are heading to Chaumont Bay Saturday morning, hoping to get into the perch.

Punched holes from 12' to 18' and the buys out gunned me as I didn't get any biguns did get some nice gills the picture you see below was the prettiest. It was great fishing with Frank, Chris, Ray and Doug.. Thanks for the refreshment Doug! Caught plenty of gills early and then the crappies moved in.

Awesome job guys. Fourteen inches is a good sized fish. Put him in the freezer and when you get a couple more that size make a school mount.

Thanks Tim. By the way it's her hook setting arm, he's the only lefty in the shanty.

Still waiting on my packages...confused.gif

Good fishing with you guys. Timmie you missed the medical history update in the parking lot. Seems Chris and Ray can trade punches with the best of back specialists. If anybody has back problems, they are the go to guys and can pass on some experiences. Ray, you got to get a truck!!

Ok Frank,

But at least we were informative. lol Who was that on the way in huffing and puffing like a Lionel train on Christmas morning? lol I was dragging too. What a Valentines Day, I got some kind of stomache bug and my walking papers! Yep, I'm back at my place and have a lot more free time to fill. Oh well.

Been busy but did get out on Saturday afternoon, here is a picture of some of the hybrids I caught with a good mix of perch. Ended up with a limit of hybrid bluegills/sunfish and 15 jumbo perch, this spot is the only spot I've ever caught the hybrids and they sure do get large. I cleaned them all and started on the perch and every single one of the perch had a boat load of the white/yellow grubs in them, they became fertilizer. I would have taken more pics but the battery [PoorWordUsage] the bed.
