Any body have luck with scents this year?

I have been using Tink's #69 for many years on drags and scent bombs. The guy I hunt with swears by it. I have yet to see a deer react at all to anything I have tried.

This year I tried some Special Golden Estrus on a wick drag line. I also had 3 scent bombs out all to no avail! What's up? I tried it the first weekend as well as the second weekend.

Like everyone I'm just looking for something to bring them in or stop them in an opening for a good shot.

I've had some luck with Cabin Fever's doe urine. It was the green label bottle of early stage estrous. Put some on my boots one morning, walked some heavy trails near a shooting lane that afternoon, and a buddy shot a small buck that evening who was nose down following my footsteps. Inspection after the shot revealed the deer had followed my path for a long ways prior in the woods. Also the deer did not walk straight across the shooting lane as the main deer path does, but rather turned toward the shooter as I had traveled earlier in the day.

Later in the week I mistakenly left a scent wick out over night. Returning to my stand in the morning I noticed the wick laying on the ground likely trashed from the shrub by a deer. Also fresh tracks overnight in the snow from a deer right up to the wick. The next morning I shot a small buck that was walking toward the scent wick. I think it was the same deer that had knocked the wick out of the tree the night before. $9.99 for a little, little bottle.

I used some Whitcombs whitetail doe pee this year. And had a 6 point buck come in and tip over my canister with his nose... the canister was right under my stand... LOL

I have had them come into both Golden Estrous and Whitcombs over the years, but nothing came into my scents this year. I had Whitcombs doe pee out. I don't think they are rutting enough to be effective yet. It seems very late this year. All of the does I see still have fawns and nobody I know has witnessed any chasing. I could just be my area.

We saw 3 bucks chasing this weekend and one is not chasing any more. The other 2 were huge HUGE deer and my dad hit one, but quit bleeding after about 1/4 mile. Tracked him for 4 hours hoping to find him. It is the biggest my dad has ever seen. Somebody saw him this am crossing the highway. Well there is still a week to go. My dad did call in both bucks with the can. The one last night was a nice 8 that came out of the swamp after the can. Dad is hooked on the can. Time to go back out and see what else we can fool!

I stopped using sents all together this year and have seen more deer than ever. In the past I have tried tinks 69, golden estrus, and a few others with no luck. I think you have to use just the right amount and make sure your sent is not mixed in, but I will continue to just go sent free and not worry about any attractant sents.

i almost always use a scent, tinks 69, trails end 307, wallhanger early on. but now that the manure has been spread on the fields in much of SE MN, I think it is pointless as the 'nure overpowers. I still like using coon pee as cover scent though...

Ha! Maybe thats what I can do with what I have left. I've tried several too with no luck.

Calls have worked some for me but maybe there's alot I'm missing about using scents. I'm about done buying them.

How can this stuff work? It's supposedly real doe urine? How come it doesn't rot in the bottle? Try peeing in a bottle and leave it on a shelf for a year and see what it smells like. If it was the real thing it would break down and be useless. People claim it works, they sell gallons of the stuff, but it just doesn't make sense if you consider the biology of it.

Tom, I dont know about many other scents.. But the Whitcomb White tails stuff is sold frozen.. and often times it is stamped the day it was collected.... Many times you can get the stuff 3-4 days after it was collected and still frozen...

I don't think I would go in the woods without some Tinks #69. I have had bucks come right up to my scent wicks and lick them. This year alone I had 4 different bucks come right to the scent wicks. They were all smaller bucks so they are still walking.

I think the main thing with using scents is to not have human scent in the area. I wear rubber boots all season and keep my used scent wicks in ziplock bags to keep them from collecting my scent. This way I can use them several times. I have even gone as far as to wear a rubber glove when handling the wicks. I did have a buck try to sniff me on the ground one time when I had the scent in my pocket and not in a bag. I don't know which one of us was more suprised when he got within 5 feet of me. I have also put scent trails down and had deer follow them right to me. I alos believe in putting scent next to a scrape (if possible) and playing the wind so you are cross wind from it and they don't smell you.

If I have filled my buck tag and am hunting for a doe I will not put scents out. It seems that I very rarely see does when I have it out.

I have tried Golden Estrus and a few other brands but keep going back to Tinks.

Maybe I have just been lucky using it.

I use Tinks myself, but my Uncle uses the Golden estrus. He calls it "Golden Uterus" This year, he put a scent wick on a stick shoved in the ground on a field. A decent 8 pt buck came out just sniffin hard, trying to figure out where she was... He walked right up to the wick, and is in little packages right now

I've been using Golden Estrus and keep it cool. I use scent wicks and keep them in the bag. Freshen em up daily.

I set them out cross wind of my location about 30 yards each side of me. I used latex gloves for a couple years when doing this but it didn't seem to help. And I wear rubber boots ALWAYS while deer hunting.

I try to only use estrus scent during November, when I feel the bucks are for sure looking. The ONLY time I've witnessed a deer checking my scent was a buck fawn that had just gotten run off by his mamma.

I'm at a loss. Maybe Whitcombs too before I give up completely.

I usually buy a little bottle of that Indian Buck Lure for gun season. It's fairly cheap. I think I got it on sale for $3.99. I put that on my boots while walking to my stand.

I had a little forky trail me right to where I was sitting on Friday. He finally saw me at 25 yards where I was sitting on the ground rifle hunting. Had I wanted him he would have been dead from that spot with my bow. He was perfectly broadside & nothing between him & me but air. It's very nasty smelling stuff, but apparently it works, that's not the first time that's happened.

I use anything & everything. I usually put scent on my Christmas list & tell people whatever they want to get me is fine, I'll try it.

I used both Whitcombs and golden estrous this year in a mock scrape I made. I have had several deer hit it after hours but nothing while on stand.
