To those who like the stradic more what makes the stradic worth the extra $40? Ive only fished with the symetre but get to play around with stradics at work. On paper the reels are very, very similiar. Just curious why everyone likes them so much more...

I have a Symetre and love it, but have used the Stradic and it would be worth the extra $40. It will be the next spinning reel I buy.

You get what you pay for when it comes to most of anything, and spinning reels this really holds true.

I had problems with my symetre, but they were minor. One of the panels came unglued and the top part of the spool came off (rear drag) so I can't change it. Otherwise its smooth. I've never used a stradic, I bought a Sahara last, now I have two of them and never a problem with either one.

Eh...Stradic....just go with the Stella. wink.gif

Seriously though, I have a Stradic and really like it. I always bought the Sedona in the past and thought it was a great reel, and it is, but not like a Stradic.

I skipped right up to the Stradic because that was the upper limit of what I could see paying for a reel - unless I win the lottery. One spin of the handle and I was hooked.

I have a Symetre and a Stradic MGFA.Both are nice. The Stradic is smooth as glass, balanced and well a really light reel.

If you by the smaller spooled stradic I have found I get twice the rats nest on this reel then the symetre. Not sure what it is they both have the same line on. If you cast hard after a couple cast you will be cutting out a nest.

I think it has to do with the smaller spool but that is IMHO.

I looked at Shimano's HSOforum and compared the two and they have identical features except the Stradic has a few cosmetic features. I went to the "World's Foremost Outfitter" and asked the guy at the reel counter. He said he asked the Shimano rep and when the Symetres were upgraded a few years ago they are basically the same as the Stradics. Next year the Stradics get an upgrade. The one difference is the you can get a 1000 size Stradic but not a 1000 size Symetre. Next year the Stradic may drop the 1000 and have the 750 then 1500 on up. Since it is the end of this model of Stradic, they were selling them for $20 off. I picked up two 1000 Stradics at $99 each. He said they were going fast.
