Hammer Handle
I like 14 lb test. Decent strength, but can still cast. You?
RobertELee
14lb flouro all the way up to 50lb Power Pro and everything in between.
Johnny_Da_Der
Quote:14lb flouro all the way up to 50lb Power Pro and everything in between. 50lb Power Pro??? I think the original post was talking about largemouth bass and not sea bass....I usually go with a 8-12lb test depending on how big the bass I am expecting to catch. I usually use good ol' mono, but sometimes fireline depending on the situation.
Rippinlip
6lb. to 50lb. test is what I go with. 8lb. and under on spinning gear, the rest goes on baitcasters.Flip-Flip-FlipSkip-Skip-Skip
RobertELee
Yeah, alot of other people use it also. Mainly for fishing slop and heavy brush. Try doing that with 12lb mono
Bobby Bass
10# mono but 20# power pro ..... 50# power pro on the flippin stick for heavy slop or buzz baits in the heavy stuff...
BassAkwards
8lbs flouro on spinning, 12lbs mono on one baitcaster and 50lbs power pro on other. I personally love my 50 lbs powerpro because with the palomer knot, i never lose a lure.
Deitz Dittrich
ohh boy... I have about 30 rod reel combos..that have any where from 6lb mono to 65 lb braid..
RK
Hiya - I have about the same range as Deitz. Anything from 6 lb mono for jigworms and swimming grubs to 50# braid for flipping in cane and rushes. Most often though, between 8 and 16# test.Cheers,Rob Kimm
Central Bassman
Hammer Handle, Here is a link to a post a few mouths ago. It will show you how many different sizes and types of line some of us use. Hope this helps http://www.fishingminnesota.com/forum/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=1062023&page=1&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=
Daze Off
Count me with Deitz's response but on just over half the combos that he has....geesh! Typical is 6# to 12# in both mono and flourcarbon except for the flippin stick where it is 50# Stren SuperBraid.Daze Off
Johnny_Da_Der
Seems like lots of people like that 50# power pro.... I'll have to give it a try. I know it's expensive but it will pay for itself after saving a couple lures. thanks for the tip guys!
RK
Hiya - Johnny - another mitigator with the cost of superline is the durability. It lasts half of forever. I know some guys respool every year, but I've had reps and engineers from more than one company tell me that unless the line is actually frayed, it's basically indestructable. I've had superline on some reels for a couple years at least, and it's fine. Cheers,Rob Kimm
slipperybob
Okay my Calcutta rod came in just in time for the weekend...Now I'm gonna use 8lb Fireline Crystal for bass.
dave12341234
man, u guys really like using heavy lines, i can hardly cast them over 10 feet! i use 8 lb power pro, or somethin like that, but then again i do use a baitcaster.
turn_in_poachers
I usually dont go less than 8lbs for bass. But this year, Im experimenting with 7lb FC to see if theres really a difference, to see if I get more bites.
EBass
2 spinning combos and have 10 and 20lb suffix braid, but I do use a floro leader most of the time. (confidence thing) Then for my baitcasters I have 12lb floro, 14lb mono, 30lb braid, and 50 or 65lb (can't member which) braid. I roll with 6 combo's until I can afford a bigger boat. luckycrank
6-8 lb mono on the spinning gear 14 & 17 mono for casting as well as 50 power pro for slop
ocf1
I use 8 lb. fireline. In my experiences with powerpro it has been incredibally weak. I would rather spool up #30 fireline that #50 powerpro
SledNeck
30 LB. Fireline.
slipperybob
The 8lb Fireline Crystal snapped on my ill attempt to cast and I lost a rare custom made inline spinner, (my lucky spinner) I think I will have to step up the Fireline to maybe 12/14 lb instead. I will have to remake another custom inline spinner.
Deitz Dittrich
Slipbob- on a baitcaster or spinning gear? I have heard of backlashes starting and then the line cutting its self thus loosing the lure, but not heard of that on spinning gear. And I wouldnt suggest casting 8lb braid anything on baitcaster. Central Bassman
SlipperyBob- Did you have some kind of backing on your reel??
Lang
14lb fireline i use it for almost everything. havent lost a fish yet except when the hook or leader breaks. it makes very good knots and is definately worth the 15 bucks for it
