Avoiding Traffic

How many are taking tomorrow off just to avoid traffic? It's been that way for many years now for me. If you work in the cities it's worth it just to avoid the traffic and take a little stress of the start of the season. Sad but true.

I'll be heading up late morning tomorrow after my son is out of preschool to take him up for his first opener. There will be traffic, but better than trying to leave at 3 or 4.

It's not just the twin cities either. Duluth can get pretty bad on friday evening

I work in Elk River so I get to see two big routes (169 and Hwy 10) get all jammed up and it usually starts well before lunch on Friday. Traffic tonight will even be a bit heavier as some head up after work today.

I'm a bass guy generally so will probably not even get on the water unless it is to chuck some spinnerbaits after some snot rockets.

Also goin up next weekend. Leaving next Wed night after work hoping to be on 35W north of 494 by 4:00 (leaving from Minnetonka). If that holds true, should be to Kabetogama around 10:30-11:30.

But when I do go opening weekend, I'll leave on Thrusday night. I learned long ago the best way to avoid traffic is to travel at night, no matter where you're goin.

I won't be leaving for fishing up north until 10:00 or later Friday night. Same when I come back south (after 10:00 Sunday). I can always take a nap during the day!

And yes, I do the same for the next 3 weekends! Like is too short to even miss one good weekend of fishing.

I LIVE in Elk River and work all over the cities, so just getting home after the long work week puts me into the weekender traffic jams. I'm sure my usual 70 minute commute home (45 minutes to work - explain that!) will turn into nearly 2 hours, if there are no accidents.

I live up north so i guess Ill leave home at oh maybe 8 am sat. just to avoid some of the jam up at the ramp. The commutes here are terrible, I remember one night shift I had to wait 1 minute to let the deer cross the road. It took me almost 15 minutes to get to work.

Here at Lake Iwanttobethere we still are proud to say that we don't have even one street light and the only stop sign is when you leave town to get on the highway. Our biggest delay can be when a mother duck takes her family across the road from Been There Pond to the waters of Lake Iwanttobethere.. Be safe out there.

Lake Iwanttobethere is easy enough to find. Your dad has been here as well as your grandfather. I'll even bet your mom has fond memories of it. The water is cool and crystal clear, Berrie bushes are always ripe and sitting to the sides of the public access. Kids can pick the fruit and feed the pannies that are in close to shore looking for a few handouts. Always a friendly face at the bait shop and you have to ask for a smaller scoop of minnows. The lake is just around the next bend over the hill, roll down your window and you can smell the water, close your eyes and point at the old fishing map.. there, see right under your finger....

Man Bobby, I sure wish that I was there right now! I have been there and some day i will return. Trouble is the next time I get there I will be the dad and grandpa will not be there. I will be there tomorrow afternoon, with my grandsons, my nephew, and yes even my Dad. Will be a 4 generation opener again, and will be perfect. I love it at that lake, and BB has it right

I too will have to deal with traffic just to ge thome from work. After that it is done, I will just hop into the boat whenever the spirit moves me and if they are not biting I will go home and maybe take anpa and try for the evening bite. Now if the rest of the mongol hordes can just leave me alone I will have a very peaceful evening of fishing. But alas and alack there will be tons of people tearing around the lake trying to find something, and to them I wish GOOD LUCK. I wont miss you on Sunday when you go home

Ditto. One reason I'm at home this weekend. lol I'll be home for Memorial Day also. I don't like playing bumper boats.
