harvey lee
After the first fouth of the season I'm going to have to eat some words. I really thought that Jeff would have a tough year with the new child coming and his recent marriage. Boy was I wrong as he is running as well as one can. Now it looks like he is the car to beat this year as his whole team is awesome. Chomp, Chomp.

JohnMickish
Tom, it takes a big man to admit that, however I see for a non believer you sure have been using up Mr. Gordon in the fantasy league.
Juneau4
Gorden is one of the best! His wins and driving record shows it. He also has had a lot of dollars to back him and money wins today.
muc33
I hope he doesn't fade... even though I am not a fan, I have yet to use him ONCE.... Can you spell a late season charge by the rookie MUC33???!!!!!
Sutty
That was one weird finish, I was rooting for little E on the Ol man's B-day which is real weird for me! I can't remember ever seeing the cars line up like that till about 7 to go?? Gordon coming back from 14th was amazing certainly a little lucky but a whole lot of skill to. Still pretty lame to see people chucking stuff on the track, all fun and games till you drill someone in the back of the head with a full beer can cause really your not Dan Marino. VMS
There seems to be a bunch of Gordon Haters at Talledega. Don't know exactly why, but it definitely is not a good thing to have beer's thrown on the track.Did anyone else feel like the caution came out late on the one that created the green-white-checker? the Dupont team definitely has things rolling their way this year so far. Still a long way to go and a few bad races can change the entire outlook. Steve
dogs
Don't follow nascar much but what little I have, I have always been impressed with Gordon, especially the way he can come from the back and he seems like a class act. My question why is he hated so, besides Foxworthy's; that for the reason he can enuciate.
Sifty
Dogs,Here is my take on the whole Gordon thing. He was not from the south big strike against him.He came from a family that had alot of money so it is procivene(?) that he did'nt have to work for anything. He is a good driver so you will have fans that just don't like him for that.He seems to be well spoken and I beleive one of the first to become completely taken in by the PC nature that NASCAR is pushing today. Thanks for checking into the NASCAR fourm. There are a great group of people here.Sifty
VMS
I would agree with Sifty on this but,I also think part of it is he has been so successful with the dupont team altogether, including changes with crew and so forth. For a while there, the dupont team was so dominant the races got a bit...boring...since we knew who had the best car out there. I for one don't like to see a team dominate an entire year. It takes some of the excitement away from the racing..at least on TV since they always seem to concentrate on the top 10 in the race. On top of that (and this is just my own personal observation here..nothing else...) is that many see the hendrick teams "seemingly" getting breaks at opportune times for various items. situations like just going a lap down and all of the sudden one of those "debris cautions" comes out, or as we have seen in the past...inspection issues with no penalty. That adds to the fire as well as to why many not only hate Gordon, but all of the Hendrick drivers. Funny thing, though, is many thought they would struggle once Evernham left. but...that has not been the case. I don't care for gordon just because my mother-in-law just adores him. Great team, great driver, and definitely have things moving in the right direction. Steve Steve

eyepatrol
Jeff and his team are simply on fire right now. I haven't been able to watch his entire career, but has he ever had a start to a season as good as this one? Nine races through the season and his two worst finishes are 12th and 10th! The rest are top 4 finishes with 3 second place finishes and of course the two wins now. He should nearly have 5 wins right now, but that's here nor there I guess. Average finish this year is 4th. One thing I know is that yesterday with 15 laps to go and Gordon was back somewhere around 15th position (or worse) I thought to myself....no way does he have a chance to win this race. I just cannot......just cannot believe how quickly he weaved his way up through the field. That just stymied me! I like what he said on SPEED's "NASCAR Victory Lane" though......"If Dale were still here he'd be kicking all our butts on these plate races". Sounds like Dale taught him a lot of what he knows about plate racing, and he gave a lot of credit to Sr. in that post-race interview.

That's not the impression I've ever gotten. From what I recall, they basically spent all their money on racing because they didn't have that much and its expensive to race. JohnMickish
Alot of the people don't like Mr. Gordon because he wins alot, is well spoken, dosen't talk with a stupid accent and is showing the hillbilly rednecks that the "god of NASCAR" isn't a god and has now taken a back seat. So you get what he had yesterday. They can't catch him or beat him in a battle of witts so they do what they know best, they throw beer cans. Jeez, between these people and NASCAR kissing Toyota's rearend it's no wonder that the ratings are falling and there are empty seats everywhere. Why can't people just realize that he is just that good. Like Michael Schumacher did in F1, you don't have to like the guy to respect his ability. All the haters are saying it's because of Dupont and money that make him win, well do you think that Bud ISN'T spending money? All the top teams are pretty close in sponsor dollars, it's just that some teams are smarter at spending it. Go ahead and chew me out I don't care, it's just that this group of narrow minded people have really set me off. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I am no fan of Jeff Gordon, his is just that good.
Big Dave2
I think another reason he became hated(besides all the other reasons already given) is because when he was younger he seemed like such a whiner and a complainer. Now Stewart seems to have taken over that role, while Gordon doesn't seem to say many if any controvercial things at all anymore.I think the main reason people(including me)don't like him is because he is a winner, with a good team and plenty of money supporting him, and just like with the yankees it is fashionable to hate that sort of team and root for the underdog.Plus I like beer-swilling hillbilly rednecks from the south! snowman678
Why is it automatically assumed that anyone who doesn't like Gordon is just a stupid hillbilly earnhardt fan? Don't you think it's possible that there are fans of a lot of different drivers that don't like him? Personally I think it's stupid to make such a big deal out of passing a guy who was 5th or 6th in wins anyhow. I don't recall any other pro sports that makes such a big scene over a guy getting into 5th place on a career record. I felt the same way about D.E., so don't throw your stupid "hater" b.s. at me. When gordon starts to approach petty's 200 wins and 7 championships then we can start the "god of nascar" talks.
Coach Dog
Jeff Gordon does rule. That beer can throwing dump is going to seriously hurt someone. I think the drivers will be fine but what if some kid or anybody sitting in the front row gets smacked by some hillbilly throwing a full beer can from halfway up the stands? And what is with Stewart's whining this year? Just when I finally started to like the guy, he's complaining about every little thing and nothing is ever his fault. Jeesh! Just when you think you can like the guy...whammo! As for the throwing drink containers....It's possible the driver's will get hit, but likely not hurt too bad if at all since they're in the car with their helmet on. My concern would be for an official getting hit, or crew member...someone without protective head gear. I know the track had law enforcement there to arrest anyone who threw drink containers, and that's a step in the right direction. However, I think if they made the threat that if you're caught throwing drinks or other materials, you'll be banned for life from the track (or say any race at any track). Put the hammer down hard now, otherwise the point won't get across to people.
PierBridge
I thought there would a lot more bottles thrown especially after JR said maybe you guys could throw toilet paper.I saw maybe 10 bottles out of 200,000 people not a bad ratio consirdering it was in the house that the 3 built. Sifty
I saw that the tracks are worried about the people in the front rows being hit by a can or bottle.Hopfully it will tone down with the threat of a fine and being banned from the track.Sifty
